“Orsini said he has informed West Virginia that UCF doesn’t plan to return to Morgantown for the final game of a three-game series,’’ says the story. “UCF is trying to find a replacement opponent for itself — or else it will pay the Mountaineers a $50,000 buyout.’’

That established, yours truly found Pastilong alone during Wednesday’s basketball game — and asked if he’d be interested in filling the opening with Marshall.

“Yes, we’d be interested,’’ said the AD. “We’d be interested in playing in Morgantown.’’

    Pastilong wouldn’t expound.

“Let’s just see what happens with this now,’’ Pastilong said.

  • sounds like normal wvu spew.........other than leaving out, "our schedule is full".  they've always given us a general we'd play in motown IF money is right and IF it fits our schedule........they've never indicated a return and unless this is a 2-1 deal...tell them to shove it.

  • I said three years ago they would wait until we were down and then they would start talking. I would not sign any contract with them unless it included a home and home provision.

  • 2 for 1 or better must be accepted. This will boust our attendance when at home and if we stay .500 or better, younger in-state fans will start to migrate to the HERD.

  • Let me beat some more on this dead horse.  I would not sign a 1 and done in Morganhole.  No way.  If they want to sign two separate contracts - a 1 and done and then a home and home series with the first one in Morganhole, I could live with that.  But, I wouldn't sign anything without a return trip to Huntington.

  • I agree Mako!!!    We don't need them to grow anyway!  Just a good instate game to have for fun and bragging rights and good for the schools and cities.   No way I accept a 1 and done.  They are not worth that.

  • Doesn't the C-USA bylaws prevent Marshall from signing any type of " _ " and done deals with the C-USA team playing all those games on the road?

  • Ashes to Glory,
I read something about CUSA teams not being able to schedule those type of games----  "signing any type of " _ " and done deals with the C-USA team playing all those games on the road'' last summer. A lot of the Herd fans were excited about the conference rule on schedules.
Hope the rule is effect this season after all the turnovers in teams leaving and etc..

  • Hmmmm .... if those particular bylaws are still in effect I guess you can construe Pastilong's answer as a "no, we aren't interested."  :(

  • Boys, it aint Pastilong or anyone else in Morgantown.  Its Hardesty.  And its apparent Manchin is taking care of the personal grudge Hardesty has against the Herd by letting him know who the boss is.

  • I was just reading the Vermons board. Someone please tell them that they are not Michigan or OK. or someone like that.Ive heard comments like "They would do us more harm" "It's not woth it" "Even if we win what do we win" "The State can't make THAT much money on it" "They have a stigma to them".

Now I know Michigan refuses to play some teams up there and Ohio State refuses to play Cincy, Alabama refuses to play Troy but WVU has yet to do anything. I mean come on we've been I-A again now 8 years and have won more bowl games then they have in 19 years.

Care if this game ever gets off the ground I do not. We already have better games on the schedule.

  • Actually, Ohio State opened with Cincinnati this past season, and had a very lucky 4-point win over Cincy in their undefeated 2002 (mythical) national championship season.

  • All I care to say about this situation is GO LOUISVILLE!!!  I hope the cardinals beat the @#$% out of WVU.  That way we can say that we have a better winning percentage against one of their conference rivals.
