Topic: William & Mary is announced as 2005 football opener

The HERD  home game is on for Sept. 3rd and an article announcing the game is on the Daily Mail site.

Kansas St game stays on Saturday if we open with W&M on Sept 3rd.  The Herds first three games are all on Saturdays.

Marshall University's 2005 football schedule needed to fill the bill, so the Herd booked William & Mary.

"It's done," said Marshall Athletic Director Bob "Kayo" Marcum. "We have a signed contract for the game."

William & Mary is the final game in a schedule that includes home games with Kansas State (Sept. 10) along with Conference USA contests against Southern Miss, East Carolina, SMU and Alabama-Birmingham.

William & Mary was booked to provide the competition in Marshall's home-opener on Sept. 3. Following that game, MU will host Kansas State and, then, play Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., on Sept. 17.

based on our new starters (especially at QB and LB's), I think this is a good opening game.  This game should test our young team and provide the experience and confidence necessary to build a foundation for the remainder of the season.  

Hopefully, the game will be played on a Saturday (and not Thursday).

If played on Saturday, W&M will probably bring more fans to the game then most MAC schools brought to Huntington.

W&M will also be better then Kent St, Ohio, EMU, WMU and Ball St.
