  • I caught the end of a morning show on WOWK this morning.  The guest was Marshall interim President Mike Jarrell.  The host asked him the status of the Marshall vs. WVU football game and Mike responded by saying that there have been talks between the schools and expects to add WVU to the schedule in 2006, once the NCAA approves teams playing the 12th game.

Looking at our roster for 2006, we should be plenty talented to win the Meelee In The Mountains II.

  • Didn't Hanshew already say that that the NCAA has already approved the 12th game?  Maybe I read it wrong.

Regardless, I truly hope they play.  I was there in '97, and it was a blast!  It sucked to lose, but, man, to even be in the game was great.  Considering that we had just moved up from I-AA.  Besides the national title games, I don't think we've even come close to duplicating that type of atmosphere.

On the flip side, if we can't play WVWho, then maybe we can start a 2 for 1 or a 3 for 2 with TOSU.  That would kill the pouties. :!:

  • OSU is a one way trip.  They won't even do 2-1s with lesser BCS schools like wvu now.  As Kayo says, there are about 20 - 25 schools in D-1 that are one way trips.  I'm pretty sure OSU is one of them.  UT should be one so we'll see if they come to huntington or not.

  • Unfortuantely, it may take a Marshall-WVU matchup in Huntington for us to see the first sellout at the Joan.

  • It almost seems that WVU will only come to Huntington if MU adds 10k seats.  IMO it shouldn't matter to them.  Both teams should get same deal (ie 10k tickets...keep what you sell) and the rest goes to the home team.

  • Like Ive said before, I don't care if this series ever takes place, we aleady have VA Tech, K-State and others. Yes 7-8 years ago we may have needed this series, now no, cancel the basketball series and be done with Nothern PA JR College.

  • If WVU will only come to MU if we add 10,000 seats to the stadium then the State should come up with the funding and help MU add a 2nd deck to the stadium.

We really do not need a 2nd deck at the current time, but if that is what it takes then the State shoudl get it done.

I think this is just another excuse by WVU (i.e. not play 1AA teams, not play MAC shcools, not play in 30,000 seat stadiums...)

It is really all about one thing...WVU has nothing to gain by playing us.  If the game is played (and we are competitive) WVU could loose State funding, potential recruits, potential students and stature.

No way would the state ever fund an additional 10,000 seats just so we can play WVWho.  I can't say I blame them either.  I want to see us kick their, er I mean play WVWho, but the State of WV has enough to worry about financially.  The game is important, but not that important.  IMO, they either play us as is, or forget it!

  • personally, I see a 10 game series being signed with 6 games in Morgantown, 4 games in Huntington.
I look for a multi year deal between the schools with atleast a 5 game series to start.

    just my two cents
    IT'S TAILGATING SEASON!

  • I would hope it would be for that long but I look for it to be a short series at first to see how things are going to go as far as us or them owning the series and whether there are any problems that arise from the games.   I think if everything goes ok then you might see a longer series started.  I wouldn't look for WVU to sign a longer series if we are beating them all the time.  They would look to fill it with someone else I think.  We will see!

  • :D  The solution to the problem is simple.  For example, If WVU stadium holds 60k, and MU's stadium holds 30k....double the price at the MU home game compared to that of the WVU home game and play 1 for 1's.  Split all revenue 50/50.
Its a whole lot cheaper to raise price for one game than to build a second tier which would only be visited by pigeons except on the rivalry gameday Only thing WVU would be out then would be commission/merchandising revenues....but mathematically that would be no different form a regular ooc game for them.  It would be a much better deal for them to do this than when the went to 32,500 seat capacity Navy 5 years ago.
I paid $59 to go to a buckeye game last year....I'd pay a whole lot more to see the two state schools play.

Yes, I paid 60 bucks for the OSU tckerts and I would easily pay that for a game in Huntington against wvu.  60 bucks would be a bargin for me.
