  • It feels like Huff is pretty sold on Fancher.  But you never know about injury, or if Fancher doesn't progress as much as they're hoping he will, or Pennington or Harrison really take off and simply beat him for the job.  But I put it at about a 25% chance of any of this occurring.

Hang up the cleats before the season starts if that happens. Especially if the new DC can't pull off a top 10 D

FWIW, I've heard his back is pretty jacked up and is a concern for some of the staff.

If true and he can't go 100% in spring ball, I'd say Huff will hit the portal hard after the spring game. Have to.

  • Doc would settle in on a QB and that was that.  Huff demonstrated last year that he will make a change.

  • curious to know how Pennington looked on scout team.  a year in the system has to have improved the bench some.

so, Fancher was playing with a hurt back, how and when did it first occur, and is it a continuing nag?  is it potentially career altering?

if he's 100% healthy and remains so through summer i guess a concern would be Fancher showing passing arm improvement in spring and summer yet reverts back to flaws in real game situations.  does his running ability offset his passing deficiencies, if those passing flaws remain?

as far as the the Pennington and Harrison, will either or both of them take a step forward/up this spring?  if so, and considering a potentially flawed pass game and a not 100% healthy Fancher, you go with one of these two.

He supposedly hurt it during practice for the bowl game - hence, why he didn't play well in that game. We'll likely never really know. I hope he can improve and Trickett adjust our passing game to his strengths - which seemed to be rolling out of the pocket. jmho

  • We have a more difficult schedule and lost a very good defensive coordinator.  To win 8 games we will need dramatic improvement at the QB position and have Ali stay healthy and be back to his old form.

rarely has the Herd had a problem at the RB position.  someone almost always steps up to fill shoes

  • I don't know who will win the job but hopefully there will be a wide open competition for the role.

I do know that if the offensive line doesn't continue to improve, it won't matter who the QB is. All starts on the line.

  • Coach Huff on the podcasts said that Cam presents a lot of problems to the opposing defenses with his ability to throw and run. Huff really liked that aspect of his game. Like someone posted, Cam hurt his back the week before the bowl game so I would guess it couldn't be too serious if he wanted to play in the bowl game. Remember, Cam was basically a FR last season due to the restrictions of covid on practicing. I like his QB IQ last year in that he didn't force his passes and overthrew some so they wouldn't be intercepted.  Turnovers kill you in football. There were pass protection problems with the line and I have some doubts about our receivers. It will be interesting to see if he makes a big jump from his FR year which is usually the case for most football players. If that happens I think the coaching staff will open up the offense for him. I know they keep the offense real vanilla year for Cam and relied on the defense.

I am sure Coach Huff will have the best player at QB that will give us the best chance to win. JMO.

Yay Bill Legg in charge of Oline.  Worked out well last year.

  • The OL got better as the season progressed. We return most of those guys plus a few transfers. Hopefully a season being together will help. We filled some gaps on D. We may not be as good coming out of the shute, but I think this group will certainly keep us in games.

Typically this is due to work ethic, not necessarily anything to do with talent.
