  • Happy to see we are recruiting the Cincy area now.  Both side of the river has tons of talent.

Seems like Doc was afraid of the competition from the big schools and MAC schools in this area.

I didn't smite you (don't know how), but Doc did offer kids from that area.  Those recruits by in large stay in Ohio.  It's not that Doc didn't try it's that most don't leave the state especially the players worth having.

I remember seeing this on another board.

According to Rivals there were 699 prospects listed for the state of Ohio for 2020 recruiting cycle.  126 show as committing to a school. Here's how they breakdown. Of those 126 committed prospects 64 (.508) stayed in the state of Ohio and 87 (.690) stayed in the midwest.

    Akron - 9
    Alabama - 1
    Arizona St - 1
    ARMY - 2
    Ball State - 3
    Boston College - 2
    Bowling Green - 14
    Cincinnati - 11
    Colorado - 1
    UCONN - 1
    Cornell - 1
    Dartmouth - 1
    Eastern Michigan - 6
    Indiana - 1
    Iowa - 1
    Iowa St - 1
    JMU - 1
    Kent St - 5
    UK - 6
    Louisville - 3
    Little Miami - 2
    Michigan St - 7
    Minnesota - 2
    NAVY - 5
    Northwestern - 5
    Ohio - 2
    Ohio State - 8
    Penn - 1
    Penn State - 1
    Pitt - 3
    Purdue - 1
    Temple - 1
    Texas State - 1
    Toledo - 8
    Western Michigan - 1
    Wake Forest - 1
    Wisconsin - 1
    Youngstown St - 2

This is how many players we had from the state of Ohio each season.

    2021 - 9
    2020 - 12
    2019 - 8
    2018 - 9
    2017 - 12
    2016 - 9
    2015 - 10
    2014 - 10
    2013 - 10
    2012 - 7
    2011 - 8
    2010 - 8
    2009 - 7
    2008 - 5
    2007 - 6
    2006 - 11
    2005 - 8

  • Going back to the 50s and 60s, southern and southeast Ohio were normal recruiting grounds for Herd football.  MU had coaches assigned all the way up to the Eastern Ohio area across from the WV Northern Panhandle all the way down along the Ohio River.  Then, too, the Greater Cincy area.  Over the years, I believe the Central Ohio area, all around Columbus, although very competitive, has become an area MU would look to for possible recruits.  Over the years, I don't we put that much emphasis on Northeast Ohio, say from Cleveland over to Akron, Canton, etc.

No.   However, there is a "metro resident" rate for students in Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike & Scioto Counties in Ohio that is about halfway between in-state and full out-of-state tuition (also applied for Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Lawrence, Martin and Pike Counties in Kentucky).

Olympic sports should get after these places
