  • Fancher was easily the best QB on our roster last year so there wasn't a debate.

Pennington is hopefully 3rd string this year. Should be a battle between Braxton and Griffis. Rooting for Braxton because I think he has the most upside.
    That?s very embarrassing.

From the QBs that saw the field he was the best.  Have they started spring practice or anything yet?

You are right, when discussing who the best QB was last season it's not a very high bar.  Same can be said about the '22 season and, without looking at the stats, quite possibly the entirety of Huff's tenure.  Laborn and Ali carried those teams.

Huff is going down the same road as Holiday.  Huff's inability to consistently recruit a quality QB will lead to his demise.  That was one of the strong points of the ex-JMU coach, his ability to recognize and recruit talented QBs.  If my memory is correct he started a transfer QB every season in the Sun Belt.

  • I'm interested if this new, fast air raid style will take off. But it all starts with a Top Gun at QB.

  • Grant Wells is arguably the best QB under Huff's watch. So far nobodies that he's recruited is joining the pantheon of Herd greats.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

We've had one really good multi year starter since Lefty; that's Cato. A few had promise but didn't deliver when it mattered.

Huff is Doc with a Notre Dame win

    Terrible hire

Same here.  The high flying offense starts with a good QB, but it also needs a good OL and WRs, the three units that have struggled the most in recent years.

Last time we tried the high flying offense it went pretty good except Holiday couldn't put together both a high flying offense and a defense capable of stopping anyone at the same time.  If my memory is correct one of the seasons that Holiday ran the high flying offense he had some nation leading stat such as averaging the most snaps per game or something.

I hope that Huff is able to put together both a high flying offense and a respectable defense at the same time.  One advantage Huff may have over Holiday is that after 3 or 4 seasons of defense focused recruiting, Huff should be starting in a better position than Holiday on defense.  Maybe that will soften the blow of the coaching staff devoting so much time to implementing a new offensive scheme and focusing practice time on executing it.  Worse case scenario would be that Huff doesn't have the players to implement a high flying offense and defense takes another step back.

I see several similarities between Huff and Holiday including both implementing a new pass oriented offensive scheme at a time when their defensive coordinator is questionable and neither being able to consistently recruit a good QB.

And even the transfers brought in to plug holes either arrived injured or were almost immediately injured -- Birdsong, Tomson, Colombi, and McMahon.

Our TE coach leaves for an analyst job at P5 Kentucky.  We bring in an analyst from P5 Purdue to coach TE.

Traded Shay who has spent his career primarily as a TE and OL coach for Miller that has spent his career primarily as a QB coach with a few years of OC duties at Div. II level.  Prior to Marshall Shay had FBS stops at LSU, Missouri, and BGSU.  Miller had prior FBS stops at Purdue and BGSU.  May be 6s.

Interesting that Huff brought in a TE coach that has never coached TE or OL but has a few years experience coaching QBs and at OC.  Miller was a QB in college (St. Francis).
