The 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive end was rated as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2017 and held 21 offers, including Michigan State, Iowa State, Kansas State and Virginia Tech.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan State made a push in December to vault ahead of Iowa State in Cumberlander's recruitment, but when Signing Day came in February, he never signed.

Those at Michigan State hoped he would be a late addition to the class, but Roswell High School Athletic Director John Coen confirmed to the Free Press by email that he would not be signing and had instead committed to Iowa Western Community College.

So how did he end up at Marshall?
