  • No big surprise here.  What has really changed?  He was not going to beat out Cato.  Gunnar beat him out last season.  Birdsong took the place of BFroh and Garvin wasn't going to beat either of them out.  The only difference is Chase came along and looks to be the future at QB.

Not everyone can start.  We'll see if Garvin has what it takes to be a successful starter somewhere else.

  • He never got a shot. Talked to him numerous times. He's better then Birdsong and Gunnar but they didn't let him show off his skills.

Honestly, half this board is just as good if you go by the Spring game performance. I think most of us on here would catch at least 1 of the 3 snaps we got from Center.

I wish him the best of luck, but this is one of the most ridiculous comments I have seen on this board.

  • I was told that Garvin made a sarcastic remark that apparently the coaches heard when the team was boarding the bus to go to the Greenbrier for their practice.  The remark made was something to the fact that why should I even go.  I think that ruffled a few feathers.  Also I heard that as his snaps began to get fewer and fewer his relationship with some of the other players  began to deteriorate.  Just saying.  Nothing here is written in stone.

  • He may have been promised things, he may have been jerked around, he may have been told he would be mentored if he came to Marshall and that may have never happened, or maybe he is a whining baby that got all he was promised but wanted more. Not knowing all the facts - or even most many of the facts - never gets in the way of declaring how things are.

If it is true, it is not surprising.  If it didn't happen, it is a believable scenario.  Every kid wants to play, and should believe in themselves enough to believe they should play.  When that doesn't happen, disappointment can lead to a lot of comments, etc, even for someone who continues to give it the "ol' college try."  Give him the benefit of the doubt and understand his disappointment.

Hope he finds a place where he can play.

If Garvin was going to be 4th in pecking order and Garvin realized that this wasn't likely to change, he should go where he has a better shot at playing, sarcastic remark(s) or not.

Um, no.  He isn't better than Birdsong, or Gunnar, or Chase.  He is 4th string.  Now, with that said, all of those guys - including Garvin - are damn good football players.  The skill level of all four is high and that is why they are at a D1 school.

  • I'm sure he pissed but you only get so many chances, you have to practice well to play........Doc does an OK job of evaluating QBS if you ask me Geno & Cato!  Take that and move along son.

  • He's a kid.  Remember in this age where no one is in risk or starving to death at any age or dying on a battlefield, unless they volunteer, that means anyone under the age of 35, and that latter only if things are pretty tough because we have not had a draft in 40 years.  Forgive him his youthful angst.

  • I never feel hard towards any athlete who honors a commitment to come and play for the Herd. I am sure he had his chances and came up a bit short. I was always rooting for him, as I do for everyone who dons Herd gear. I certainly wish him every success. No hard feelings whatsoever. He is doing the right thing for himself and he did right by the Herd in giving us a shot. It helps us too as we can use the schollie.

Go Cole, be a star!! You are still a Son of Marshall. Thanks for your efforts here.
    Go HERD!!!
