  • I wouldn't mind adding an alternate jersey with a LITTLE more black to be brought out occasionally like OU did before our game last fall...and to generate revenue for the atheltic department so that Nike continues to produce a kelly green line for us...however, I'm really with Gaylen on this for the most part...(most) everyone had a herdon about us returning to a kelly green base...so let's stay there...P.S. I also hate f*cking cell phones...

  • Geez, 100 posts simply because one guy (me) stood by what he felt was right (that Marshall colors are green and white only) and was not afraid to be pilloried and ridiculed by the well-meaning, but incorrect masses.
By the way, black would be a fine trim color. Not a fine main color.

Here is the link to the official logos and colors. It does state that black is indeed an official color and if a "two-color logo" is used, then the two colors is recommended to be green and black.

  • First off I believe a few years back we
    had black basketball uniforms trimmed
In green, for special games only.
Also EVERYONE I showed the pic to of
the black uni's loved them. My son is a
junior at Marshall he and all his friends
love the idea. These are for special games
and look great, just like all my black
Marshall gear from shorts to polos along
with hoodies and hats. Most love them
but some still have trouble with changes
like color tv cell phones DVD's cd's and no
The world is not flat it's round. Go Herd

  • I'm a big fan of tradition and Kelly green and I dislike most of these alternate uniforms we see nowadays from various teams but......

Having said that I don't want to be a hypocrite in regards to my reasoning of why the BOB bowl was the best choice of our program as a whole in the big picture. If the guys like it and want it, if it will help us acquire better recruits...then I'm 100% for it no matter my personal (selfish) opinion.

  • It is latter, not ladder, but I digress ...
Really, I am not mad. I guess I am saddened by people willing to throw Marshall's colors -- Green and White -- away for something that would look cool by going with a basic black shirt or pant outfit. It may be progress as some feel but I am not sure it is good progress.

As to another point, actually you could look at black and white as additive or subtractive colors then one would be the combination of all colors (white is that in additive colors) while the other is the combination of all colors the other way (black is that in subtractive colors).
But that is an argument that we could go long and hard into without a real definitive winner so making a point by using the argument that black is not a color thus could not offend one's sense of color is not a true argument and therefore really could not be used as an argument until a definition of which actually is the absence of color, black or white?
I do wish those that disagree would not personally vilify me for not wanting to add something that is not part of the traditional color of the school -- green and white -- with cheap attacks about age and the possibility of a need for an adult undergarment. Frankly, I do not need them.

You are missing the concept that exanimate has brought up numerous times....we have no tradition. How can you say Green and White are our traditional colors when we have had so many others as well?

If you look at colors in terms of light being reflected then black is not a color. The only way we see colors is because of the light that reflects off of objects. Without light everything is black and that is the absence of color. White is the presence of all colors.

  • Listen, I don't care what we do for the bowl game.  But if we don't do an alternative uniform in the near future, I can assure you that it will hurt recruiting, even if it's just one player.  Schools that are "traditional" like Georgia, Purdue, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Florida and even Tennessee (and many more) have worn "throwback" or alternate "third jersey" combos in recent years.  You don't think there is as much or more tradition in those programs?  Yes there is...but they know that regardless of what level you are recruiting on, this MATTERS to recruits.

Not doing an alternate jersey wouldn't surprise me, because it seems that MU is always 5+ years behind trends, but to think that tradition is going to be "spoiled" because we wear a black jersey once a year is asinine.  We live in a "what have you done for me lately" society.  What Bobby Pruett and Chad Pennington did year 12-13 years ago in our "traditional" uniforms doesn't matter to an 18 year old 4* recruit --- but the "swaggin' black jersey" might.

All I would ask when considering this issue is not to be so closed minded to think that something like this isn't VERY important to kids today...what we, as fans want, really isn't important.

"When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose."

  • Shouldn't we worry about being able to afford new kelly green pants and white jerseys instead of reinventing the wheel? Obviously we couldn't do so this year.

Ok I want you to think, and t doesn't say Much for the anti-black guys that they didn't catch this.  Or nobody dad the info provided by that link.

If a 2 colored logo is printed, the colors used are green and black, so that makes black more official than white??

The paper it is being printed on is WHITE!!  So, having considered that, it seems fair to say that, that alone doesn't make black on of our colors. This part of the document is discussing the logo being used for a letterhead.

However, If that is the same link I posted in the first page or 2 of this thread, around page 7 it does discuss the schools 5 primary colors, one of which is black, another of which is white.

When i posted my link, I didn't think anybody read it.  Now, I know they didn't.
