Entering the 2016 season, Marshall’s hopes rested partly on the arm of Chase Litton, who was thought to be knocking on the door of Conference USA’s elite quarterbacks.

But for any number reasons, in and out of his control, he didn’t rise to the challenge. He can’t be solely blamed for the Thundering Herd’s 3-9 season, but he missed two games and had some tough outings.

  • Litton could do as well as any IF he has the skill players, OL and coaching. It takes all four. I believe his talent is above avg. Gotta have the toughness and ability to read Ds. He'll be better next yr with a yrs exp. And he'll be better in game 8 than in game 1.

  • Litton has all the tools if he learns proper mechanics. If he can get over that hit and learn to step up in the pocket and throw off his front foot, he will be fine. His problem is if he feels the least bit of pressure he rushes and throws off his back foot. If he still does any of that at all, he will still have major issues throwing the ball. If he can get that mental toughness and not fear that hit, he will be fine. That will be the biggest key of all.

  • He has a lot to prove.  I hope our next long time starter is a better player.

  • This is an interesting year for Chase...will he be the next Brian Anderson or a healthy Stan Hill?

Exactly what they were saying about Payton in the early days. All things come to he who waits (or something like that)

He is no healthy Stan Hill.  I still think the game he had against Akron (the horrible loss that was in no way his fault) was the best QB single game performance I have seen at Marshall.  If not for all the drops by Davis, he would have had something like 600 yards and 7 TDs.

Hill was a stud when healthy.   He loved my shows.  I swear the Akron game was rigged.  Never seen anything like it.

A healthy Stan Hill with a clear head would have been playing in the league on Sundays. When he was on that guy had "it".

  • Chase reminds me of Todd Donnan, but with a better arm.

  • and physically at least a much bigger player.....sometimes that matters...sometimes not. But going in I'll take 6'6 230 all day long.

Don't think so.  Payton's soph year was, statistically, about the 6th best in Marshall history up to that point.  The Herd went 6-5 that season (Donnan's first).  Everyone expected some growing pains with the new coaching regime and  new offense.

  • He has all the physical tools to be great,it all depends on his protection and his mental state.I hope every thing goes his way as he goes so does the team.

IIRC, svherd, Todd certainly wasn't one to hesitate tucking the ball in and running, something we don't see from Chase, so far.  Maybe Jim Donnan didn't want to see Todd running, but he did when he thought the situation required it.  Of course, Michael Peyton was very good running from the QB position.
