  • Hey guys and gals. At the Trent Arena (Kettering Fairmont High School) over this weekend (Sat - Sun - Mon) the Fly Into the Hoop High School Invitational will be played. 20 teams from 9 states will play 16 games. The #2 ranked high school team in the country will be here. There are several 5 and 4 star players. Rivals ranks it one of the 5 best high school tourneys/invitationals in the country and will have people here all three days, as will ESPN. Approximately 50 universities are sending coaches, including Marshall, Ohio State, Kentucky, WVU, North Carolina, Duke, Indiana, Purdue, Memphis, etc. DJ called today and requested passes. I don't know who is coming, but I'm hoping DJ might show up himself on Sunday or Monday. There wil be lots of talent to scout and its only two and one half hours away.

Anyway, the Director of the invitational, Eric Horstman, told DJ that he wanted to introduce me to the coach(es) that show up. I'd love that!

You can access the invitational information at www.flyintothehoop.com. You will be able to see for yourself.

A personal request. If you access the web site and see any players that you know we are interested in, let me know. I'll see virtually all the games/players, but, of course, I'd be interested in who the HERD is interested in. Most of the college scouts will probably be judging underclassmen. I know that KY, OSU, Ind, and Dayton have commitments playing. I'm sure there are many others.

Sorry to ramble on, but I thought some of you might be interested.

  • Make sure DJ knows who the arena is named after.

  • Go to Cassano's and get a steak sandwich after the game.  Extra banana peppers please.  With a Barq's red creme.

  • Just got back from the first day. Man, there is some serious talent here. The #1 rated PG in the nation (commited to KY), is awesome. Harmony Prep was unbelievable! They have players committed to Indiana, Toledo, Concy and Chicago Ill. Findley Prep, the #2 ranked team in the nation was VERY good and has five players committed to Div 1 programs.. I,m looking forward to seing Our Savior of New America (NY), also rated in the top 10, tomorrow. They have a 7'5" and a 7 footer. There is a rumor that the invitational director is switching the schedule to have Harmony and Findley Prep play on Monday. I hope that happens. I spoke with a guy fro ESPN that told me there was more talent here than there has been at any HS tourney/invitational in the country. There are lots of FR and SO starting for quality teams. Hopefully MU can zero in on a couple. The invitational director told me that Marshall was coming in tomorrow (Sunday). I'll be waiting! I wish some of you could be here. There were 31 universities represented today with more coming in tomorrow, including the HERD. WOLF, I know you have a close friend that lives in Kettering. Maybe next year you can visit the two of us and see some games. I'll buy you the tickets - both of you. This BB junkie is having a ball. Great win for the HERD tonight.

  • I forgot to mention that I talked to the high school coach of Terrel Baines and Robbie Jackson. He saw my MARSHALL shirt and came up and introduced himself. Unfortunately, Providence (SC), his team, lost to Nashville Christian Academy in a close one.

Do I sound like a kid in a candy store - with everything being free?
