  • Randy Moss isn't the only NBA player masquerading as a football star in Paul Tagliabue's NFL.

    By Jason Whitlock
    Special to Page 2

That's the beauty and brilliance of the NFL, a league that has done a remarkable job of hiding the fact that it has just as many petulant malcontents as the NBA does, as well as more performance-enhancing drug cheats than Major League Baseball and Olympic track and field, combined.

No one should be all that surprised that Moss abandoned his Minnesota teammates near the end of their seventh loss in 10 games last Sunday, walking off the field as the Vikings lined up for a last-ditch onside kick with two seconds to play.

    Randy Moss, self-absorbed?

This is the man who thanked Marshall University for offering him a home by skipping the press conference called to announce his early entry into the NFL draft. This is the man who told the world that he routinely takes plays off, and plays only when he wants to play.

  • I am willing to go on the record as this being a year that sort of blew for Marshall football.

Randy being Randy.  Byron getting hurt in a bid that cost his team the playoffs.  What the hell our solid citizen Chad was thinking, I'll never know.  And let's not even talk about 6-6.

Troy Brown was the lone bit of really good news in this football season. But it's a new year...and I trust it will be a good one.

Yes, Randy Moss is a coward and a punk and has the leadership skills of a five-year-old Girl Scout placed in charge of Navy Seals. Moss is not a winner. He contaminates and undermines everything with which he comes in contact. Dennis Green, the man who ignored Moss' rap sheet, looked like a genius for drafting the freakish wide receiver when he caught 17 touchdowns, averaged 19 yards per catch and ignited the Vikings to a 15-1 record in his rookie season.

I don't believe I have ever read such a harsh quote.

"We're going to monitor that car more closely," said Pastilong, who previous said the football staff had used the car for errands. "It's going to have a checkout sheet with an odometer reading and the purpose for using it."

  • Wahhhhhh. Cry me a river. Randy will always be Randy. If he only gives 100% on 5 plays all game he's still better than most every other receiver in the NFL. If you listen to his interview he did you can see that he was upset and that is why he walked off the field, he kind of admitted it was wrong. And he said he didn't know whether or not Tice was the right coach but that he was sticking behind him no matter what.

So long as he doesn't do anything stupid off the field this kind of stuff doesn't bother me. It's just him being emotional over another up and down season because our D sucks.

  • What the crap are people expecting?  Are they expecting Randy to suddenly remember that he signed a 100 million dollar contract and turn around and walk back onto the field?

It's so ridiculous that people do that.  Randy goes there to play football and win.  Maybe walking off the field was not very polite, but he was simply expressing his dissappointment!  But noooooo....people don't see that part.  They just see the fact that Randy wasn't thinking that he gets paid millions--as he was walking off the field.

  • The game's all about them.
Regardless if he played for WVU or not, how many of you guys would defend Henry's actions of throwing tantrums?

    I don't care if Randy's Randy.
I don't care if he gives 1000% on the plays he chooses to participate in.
You don't treat your teammates like that.

There's no discounting his ability and skills.
That doesn't keep him from being a no class punk.

  • Randy is a punk and like the mountaineers, I cheer for the team playing the Vikes because of this thuggishness.  Remember when he said the Marshall plane crash "wasn't that big a deal"?  Remember when he said he'd never return to WV again?

How could any of you guys cheer for somebody like that?

  • Randy did not mean the plane crash was not the big a deal by the way he said it.  He was just not very good with words then.  He was young and did not know how to express himself.  He had been looked down on by the media for a long time and he did not trust anyone.  He had given up on the state of WV because they gave up on him, except for MU fans.  They labeled him as a %^)#@ and that was all he heard and whatever he did he was watched and critisized for it.

Randy is not a real bad person and he has grown up.  He just doesn't trust people because he has been backstabbed by probably almost everyone around him and the media doesn't make him look much better. I will always support Randy because he is from WV and he played for MU.  He is still the best WR in the NFL and would take him over anyone in the world to play on my team.   The guy wants to win!! Can you blame him?!?!   He doesn't like losing and he is fed up with it.  I can see him being like Barry Sanders some day and saying the hell with it and retiring because his team could not win.  He needs to go to the Jets because they need a go to WR.

  • This is not good.  I hate it for him.  I have met much of his family, and they know what a great guy, Randy, is. I, truly believe Randy has a good heart.

Its' a shame that the entire system has taken advantage of this .02 second indiscretion that took place this past Sunday, but yet exploit it for profit or gain.  Even the NFL does the same thing, and the press, say's nothing for his defense.

This same situation has been taking place since Randy was in middle school.  Now, after many year's, and situation's, Randy still need's help. The love; the caring; the telling someone its' not their fault when you don't win every time; w'ell, that's what Randy has never experienced
This, is the sort of thing we may have gotten when we were (7) from our father or mother.  Randy, did not get that when he was (7).  Now, out of our own insecurity(s) we grin, or rib one another thinking we are superior every time Randy messes up.  If we will be honest, we know better.  We, are either luckier than Randy, or we are still just like him.

They, don't know the heart of a champion!  They, don't know the heart of Randy.  No one ever, has tried to give affirmative help to Randy, but everyone, is ready to make their million, trying to decimate him, befriend him, "suck-up" to him, take his picture w/an autograph, or F/him.  Whatever it takes to make a buck$.

One thing is certain.  It makes no difference the colour of the gentlemen.  Every colour of person has contacted me to try to make a buck.$.  Its' the story they are after; not the content, can you believe it?

I, like many others, want to make money as well as the next person, but I will not lie about someone, just to make a buck; I don't need money  that bad, and those that know me, know I am comfortable with my financial position. I don't have to compromise my principles on this, or any other subject. It is wrong, and there is still a tender hearted great athelete who "still" needs the aid he has always needed.  Let's be the greatest fans ever.  He, may not even realize, but let's be the best!

Randy, you are still the greatest athlete, and football player!

    Go, and prove me correct!

  • Every criminal's family says he's such a nice boy.

Everybody's taking advanntage of poor Randy again.
If only we could understand him more. Maybe he wouldn't be such an @sshole.

If he needs help so badly, he's only making about 10 mil a year. I'm sure he can afford it.

  • Wow, he walks off the field 3 seconds early and you guys all flame him. He hasn't had a serious off the field incident since the traffic officer incident. But yet you flame him for this? Sure, he isn't the model citizen. But is he any worse than TO, Ray Lewis, Keyshawn Johnson? They are overpaid professional atheletes. What can you expect?

At least he is not getting in trouble off the field. To me, this doesn't mean anything other than he was really upset because he thought they missed the playoffs again. If you were in his situation I bet better than 75% of you would have done the same thing if not worse. What would you do if Marshall just blew a game on a dropped pass, a stupid holding penalty and generally shitty defense. You'd probably kick something, throw a beer bottle, yell, cuss. But wow, you can sure flame on a guy for walking off the field early. The ONLY thing negative he has done all year long. Give me a break.

  • What's worse? What Randy does to get himself in trouble, or how bad the media blows up and puts under a microscope every single tiny little thing he does?  I am absolutely for the first time in my life getting pure disgusted with the idiotic media.

For example, look at the NY media.  DID CHAD PENNINGTON EVER RUN OVER A TRAFFIC COP??? NO!!!!!!!!!!  But the media is so retarded, that they blow something like that up just to make Chad look bad!!!!!!!  The same goes for Moss.  Did he run over a cop?  NO!!!!! He walked off the field with a painful heart and was in disgust!  Same goes for how he celebrated.  WHO CARES IF HE GETS PAID 10 million bucks!  Does that automatically ban him from being able to celebrate?

The media really is pissing me off......getting on Chad Pennington's case was the last straw.

For the first time, I'm really starting to see the true person in Randy Moss.  I'm seeing how the media is wanting badly for him to be the next O.J. Simpson or something.  What kind of sick mind would do that?

  • I will say this, as much as I love the Vikings and Randy, his episode today was pretty stupid. I know it was all in fun and he did it on adrenaline. But to do what he did after the second TD was just plain out stupid. I definitely don't condone what he did today, and he'll probably be suspended for the Eagles game. If that's the case, then I will say he deserves it because that was STUPID.

  • If you think what he did was stupid, look at 90% of all NFL TD celebrations.  Randy's celebration method wasn't close to being as STUPID as some of the others.

  • I saw an interview with Tony Dungee, Colts coach, and he was amused by Randy's celebration. He then went on to explain why.

A bunch Green Bay fans, after a Packers victory, hang out in the parking lot after the game. If Green Bay wins they all moon the opposing team's bus as it leaves.

Dungee was amused, because he knew the history.

  • Green bays traditional send off had more to do with this than randy
showing off...   I saw him yelling at the crowd a few times..   but the fan's and the players have got to stop this stuff before it get's out of hand.
NBA STYLE.. Why can't everybody score there touchdown, spike the ball then go to the sidelines,Then the crowd can boo or cheer..

    Imiss the old school day's  70's  80's ....
The game has changed so much..   TO MUCH $$$$$$$$$$

  • IMHO Randy would have been better off to have mooned the GB fans that hang out after the game.

That being said, if you have ever seen one of the game tapes where Randy is miked, you know how detail oriented he is. My guess is he knew what fans were in the end zone and mooned the appropriate ones. The problem is the other 50K people there and the few million watching on TeeVee that don't have Dungee's insight.

But hey, If it gives Dungee a tickle, who am I to complain. The walking of fthe field thing is a different matter though.

Peyton got into trouble at UT for mooning some other football players when a female trainer (that he was unaware of) was present.

If the Vikings meet the Colts in the Super bowl, maybe Randy and Peyton can have a moon off!!!!
