HUNTINGTON — Marshall shot 53.6 percent from the field on the way to a 94-72 win over West Liberty State College on Tuesday in the Thundering Herd’s final exhibition game prior to its season opener Nov. 13 versus Pikeville (Ky.) College.

Marshall senior guard Mark Dorris fell just one assist shy of a triple-double, registering game-highs in points (25), rebounds (11) and assists (9). Dorris’ 25 points gave him leading scorer honors for the second straight game of the preseason as he matched his 25 points from Thursday’s exhibition versus Fairmont State.

Dorris added two steals and recorded two of the Herd’s nine blocks on the evening.

Herd freshman Tirrell Baines netted 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior guard/forward Markel Humphrey and senior forward Jean Francois Bro Grebe scored 12 points apiece. Bro Grebe’s points came in just 10 minutes off the bench, going 6-for-6 from the floor.

The game was marred by turnovers, 23 by West Liberty and 22 by Marshall. The Herd, however, was able to take better advantage of the miscues, scoring a 23-14 edge in points off turnovers.

West Liberty was led by 17 points apiece by forward Chris Banal and guard Ben Howlett.

The Herd’s season opener versus Pikeville next Tuesday will begin at 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
