I will bet those giving the back of their hand to long distance travelers will be the first to complain about sagging season ticket sales, poor attendance, etc. when these things happen.
Should the Kstate game be moved to Thursday I will no longer purchase season tickets, not as a protest, but simply because it no longer makes sense to do so.

You spent the first part of your post expressing what an ultra loyal fan you are only to spend the last part showing us what quiter you are?

LOOK - I don't think anyone on here gave anyone a backhand.  Not until later in this post of mine.    You obviously haven't read the threads.

I would like for each of you complaining about weekday games get this into your heads:

EVERYONE that is NOT in a BCS conference WILL HAVE to play on weekdays to gain a NATIONAL TV audience.

Period.  Marshall didn't make these rules.  READ THE NEW CUSA CONTRACT!  Geesh.  Do you honestly think that if Marshall had an option they would purposely move these games to weeknights?

Point #2.  WEEKDAY games must be deemed NECESSARY and FINANCIALLY ACCEPTABLE or there wouldn't be so many of them.  USPAM played back-to-back Wednesday games in '03 and they're in a bcs conference!  I haven't seen them file for bankruptcy recently.  Nor have I seen them lose 50% of their fanbase.

    [BACKHAND]
This thread has become a whinefest.  Just because out-of-staters have to make sacrifices, it doesn't make your contribution any more valuable than those of us that donate our money, time and effort to the program.

Want to really have something to cry about?  Come back home and suffer trying to maintain your standard of living in this job market!  We'd be picking some of you out from under a bridge!  You left.  Sacrifices have to be made.  I understood this when I left the region and I wasn't as involved as I am now.  I left pre 1991, so I didn't have season tickets to hold Marshall hostage over every decision that didn't go my way.  Funny that it never really entered my mind to do so.

If I've offended anyone, I will apologize after I read in the papers "MARSHALL UNIVERSITY CLOSES DOORS DUE TO OUT-OF-STATE ALUMNI NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THURSDAY GAME." [/BACKHAND]

    Suddenly, I'm not so sympathetic...

    Blade,

I couldn't find in '03 where WVU played back to back weeknight games.  They played at Miami on Thurs. Oct 2 and at home against WVU on Oct. 22 with a game between on Oct. 11.  That is a huge difference.  Plus WVU has a much larger fan base to pull from than Marshall.  I am not trying to debate you but I wanted to point out the games weren't at home in back to back weeks.  Like I said before, if back to back home games weren't on Thursday most people wouldn't care if KSU was on Thursday.  I am sure most figured it would be so they made plans like myself to attend the KSU game.  With the W&M game being moved and USM game most likely being moved that is half the home games no weeknights.

CUSA only pays $100K for weeknight games.  Ticket revenue would have been twice that much especially with KSU tickets mostly likely being $40.  MU's fan base will not support the team with sellouts on Saturdays historically so there is no way they will on weeknights.

It is Marshall's decision to move the W&M game and with KSU being a non-conference game that could have negoitated it.  MU could have worked with the NCAA to get an exemption to play the W&M game a week earlier as some teams in the past have done.

Like I have said before I will be at the KSU game but not W&M due to work commitments and possibly not the USM depending on what time of the month it falls.  I don't have a problem with one Thursday game or an additional Friday but when half the home games are on weeknights, I don't agree.  MU needs funding and the TV contract funds and CUSA $100K payment only go so far.  I will still buy my current season tickets but will not increase my # of tickets until it is financially beneficial to me.

I just hope all those who constantly bash those that can't attend don't complain when attendance is lower than expected for certain games.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math to see how much money the Herd brings in for additional ticket sales and other expenditures in the city of Huntington.  For myself, I know I will spend less in Huntington on weeknight visits because I don't stay in hotels and eat in Huntington.  I am sure there are others that will do the same.

  • actually, 247,but we're still friends.

I don't think this has become a whinefest at all.  I think there have been good arguements attempted on both sides.  A whinefest is "Pruett has lost control" "Our team has no senior leadership" stuff like that that is hard to substantiate and prove and few alternatives can be offered or considered.  I think this has been a healthy discourse even if I have spent most of my time on the minority side of the aisle.

I get tired of threads too, sometimes.  I stop reading them and responding to them and they eventually work their way off the page.  I really don't think this debate is over, though and although I care only to a degree what the posters say (they are folks I enjoy meeting at SATURDAY tailgates) I am uncertain the administration has heard or understands the concern and I'm also uncertain about what to do about it.

  • Blade. Did having season tickets during seventeen consecutive losing seasons and seeing every one of those games qualify me as a quitter?
