You must have gotten lost on the way to the Louisville board.

Jerrod a giant, someone somewhere has a sense of humor.

  • No joke, inspite of his stature, that's the team that he's playing for as the starting point guard.

I watched the first half of their last game.
The announcers said that he was a NBL MVP candidate before the game.

More power to West.  He repped MU well off and on the floor while in H-town.  Support former MU players and student athletes, even if they play elsewhere for a while.  If he accomplishes something positive in his post college play/or other life pursuits, how can that not reflect well on MU?  Better to take the high road rather than the alternative.

    I agree 100%, Coal.
I don't understand the negativity regarding JW. IIRC, he holds a 4 year degree from Marshall.
Basketball-wise, I really don't believe he's going to rise to one of the better pro leagues as a player.
However, he can make a good living as a BB coach. It makes sense for him to have gone to UL & a pro league to be exposed to different philospohies at various levels...sort of like BB grad school.

  • I can't believe how few Herdfans were there.  I mean Jerrod was a former Marshall player so we needed to be there to support the whatever the @#$% Giants.  Bad fans for not going to see Jerrod play.  /sarcasm

Odd?  Howso?  I'm not a Louisville fan, or and EKU fan or whatever.  I'm a MARSHALL fan.  If a kid comes to my school, great, I'll get behind them and support them as much as I can.  If a kid decides to leave us for another school, why shouldn't I consider them a traitor or be upset about it?  Sure, on one level it doesn't make sense, I get that.  But I'm a FAN of Marshall first, and the kids are, honestly, a very distant second for me.  I've been a Marshall fan for a long time, since the 80s, and I've seen 1000s of players go through the doors here, and Lord willing I'll see 1000s more before I'm no longer around.  Only my love for Marshall, my support for Marshall and my fandom for Marshall has been there, while the kids come and go.  I've great memories of many Marshall legends, but none of them were bigger than the program or the school.

At the end of the day, for the most part if it's good for Marshall and/or helps makes the team/program better I support it.  If it hurts the school/team/program, I am against it.  Kids joining our program helps the team, therefore I support it, whether they be high school kids or transfers from somewhere else.  Kids leaving our program either 1) isn't relevant as they weren't contributing or going to contribute so I largely don't care OR 2) them leaving makes us weaker which I DO care about and don't support.  So yeah, I don't cheer for West or anyone else who leaves the Herd for another program.  It's just the way it is.

I can't believe we have to explain to you, that is somebody transfers in, they are joining the Herd and improving our team. If they transfer out they are leaving the team, and in the instances where they were stars, and leave because they "want to play on the big stage to get exposure for the pros" then good riddance, and yes they are traitors. Going to a school that wanted nothing to do with them the first time.

I hope to never hear about that louisville player again

I don't know why so many herdfans care that other herdfans are apathetic to his current career.  I would imagine that we still have more herdfans that give a crap about his current career than UL fans do.  Honestly, they leave for another school I don't hate or wish ill, I just don't care about them.... they chose another school.  Good for him and get going.

I do recall, after he left, one of his public comments was something to the effect "I want to play for a program like this, on this type of stage in front of these type of fans".  I mean, I was done with him or any other transfer out anyway but I would think those comments would sway some to not worry about him now.  But hey, if you want to follow his career forever knock yourself out, no one is criticizing anyone for doing so.  I just do not care about his basketball career just like I would not have had he not ever come to MU.  He was not heavily recruited; DD gave him a chance he took it then he left for greener pastures.  See ya.

So these young athletes can do what is best for them, which I am all for.  But Marshall Fans are not allowed to not care about a player after he abandons his teammates and university that gave him his shot?  I wish him no ill will or bad juju.  But I see nothing wrong with not supporting him after he chooses to switch sides....

I have to agree with you. I don?t wish any I?ll will toward him but he left Marshall. That is why Jon and Kinsey will always be special to me. They stayed and showed loyalty to Marshall. Jarrod could have been doing the same thing that he is doing now if he stayed and showed he was loyal. And how did the Louisville experiment turn out? Numbers went way down. The coach got fired and he lost his starting job.

Better still, bust, why not direct all that venom and vitriol towards all those recruits who left on their own and NEVER contributed more than a smidgen towards the Team's goals, if any?  You know, the Dozics, the Sustics, and God knows how many other Danny D. recruiting MISSES during his tenure!  You know all the guys that the Coaching staff basically wasted a lot of TIME, EFFORT, and FINANCIAL RESOURCES to bring to Marshall in the FIRST PLACE.  Especially the FINANCIAL RESOURCES that neither the MU Basketball Program and the Athletic Department as a whole cannot afford to squander!! Instead throw hate towards West, Williams, etc., who did contribute significantly while here and certainly EARNED their scholarships!!  BRILLIANT!  But then, of course, that would mean directing the real anger and blame to where it REALLY belongs, doesn't it?

If you left Marshall whether you contributed or not while you're here, I do NOT care what you're doing.  If you leave Marshall to go pursue athletics at another school or because you realize you aren't cut out to be a D1 athlete and you're instead going to focus on education. That's fine, good for you. Do what's best for you, but I, as a Marshall fan I am no longer following what you're doing and no longer care what you're doing. Simple as that. I'm a Marshall fan. I'm not a Louisville fan, I'm not an EKU fan, I'm not a WV State fan, I'm not a Med School fan. If you leave, good luck but GOODBYE. I don't wish you ill but I'm no longer concerned with if you have success or failure after that point. The only exceptions are if you leave Marshall because your eligibility ran out or because you got drafted in the NFL, NBA or MLB. Other than that.. Happy Trails.

first and foremost jarrod west will always be a son of marshall, regardless of how some of you guys may feel about him. he gave his heart and soul to this program, always left it on the court and was a 4 year starter. i think some of you guys need to do some research as to why he left and find out what was told to him during his exit interview after his SR yr.  I'll just say that last yr coach Dan got what he asked for at the PG spot and Im a big AT fan, and i will leave it at that. As a result of the exit interview, west decided to leave and landed at Louisville. as a result of that decision, his assistant coach at louisville got him the job in New Zealand and now he is leading candidate for MVP. he also has been offered the grad assistant coaching job at several P5 schools as a result of him playing at Louisville and soon there will be an announcement as to where he will be playing basketball next yr overseas. i say all of that to say, him playing at Louisville opened a lot of opportunities for his future. its funny, when West was here most of you guys on this site always said how bad he was and we could do better anyway at PG spot. we see how that turned out. then it was he will ride the bench at a P5, and he led Louisville in minutes. next it was hes not a professional player and now hes leading candidate for MVP. its sad because west has ALWAYS represented Marshall in a great way, always gave back to community, always left it on the court, always competed at a high level and you guys continue to bash him. once again, do the research on exit interview and you will find out why he left.  all i can tell you is, west was a BIG LOSS for last yr team. no defense and no leadership, stuck out like a sore thumb.

"He was not heavily recruited"  The unfortunate truth is hardly any of our signees are heavily recruited by schools at the same league level or above. Which is a primary reason why we haven't been competitive for a regular season title in CUSA. I'm thrilled we held on vs WK in CUSA tourney and beat Wichita St in NCAA's but that seems to be lightning in a bottle. I get what people are saying but in JWill case and maybe JWest case the HC didn't seem to want them around anymore.

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

Again I don?t hate anyone that leaves. But I could care less about them now. They chose to leave Marshall. And Louisville didn?t open up anything for him. He could have got the same thing he has now if he had stayed. He is doing well in a very poor league over seas. It isn?t one of the better leagues by a mile. And besides, we have better players now and everyone that has gone and watched these kids will agree. Curfman shooting is just wowing people. It?s becoming an inside joke every time he shoots and it?s nothing but net that we need to find a shooter. And this is also the best freshman class hands down under Danny. Fricks, Conner and Handlogten are going to be special once they get their feet wet. All 3 are smooth as silk.
His point total went WAY down and he went to the bench when the coach got fired. Jon is playing in a better league and he didn?t have to go to Louisville. And same for Peneva. And Kinsey likely won?t make the NBA but want to bet he doesn?t play in a better league? But again, Marshall basketball is in a much better place now with the talent we have. Now it?s trying to keep it with this insane transfer and NIL money.
