The players you mentioned could play for any team...those were all time greats.  The point is that West was a top level player for the Herd and was good enough to get offers from ACC schools.  An assumption that a player from the OVC will be an upgrade is not a given.  If such player is even close to our all time greats then yes, that would be an upgrade over West.

My point is it was said an ovc player would be a downgrade from a kid going acc. I say that isn?t always true. Taft and Skip were southern conference players and they were light years better than west. There are tremendous players at so called mid major schools. West was a very good defender but his offense left a lot to be desired. I want someone with better handles and that can actually finish in the paint. I?m happier with AT, Early and Braun even if we don?t get another guard. Lot of upside with those 3.

I don?t think we will do as well this coming season assuming Kinsey leaves and we don?t pick up another guard. We play 3 guards at the 1 - 3 positions. Marco and Dillon have not shown, yet, that they are effective at the guard positions. That means we would have no one to give the starters a break. That is a lot of pressure to put on three players including a true freshman to play 40 minutes.

If Kinsey comes back, then it is a mute point assuming Braun can play at a level that West did his freshman year.

kinsey's a fool if he pulls a peneva.  he's not NBA-ready.

y'all think west will actually start @ UL?  i'll be very surprised.  jarrod was a deserving starter for a ho-hum CUSA program that desperately needed someone on the floor capable of playing defense.  that's a far cry from starting for an elite ACC school that plays deep into march on a regular basis.

as for the point earlier about So Con players . . . there's a lot of mid-major starters that would get mins at bigger schools.  jarrod doesn't stand out in that regard.  just b/c he's gonna go play at a power 5, doesn't mean replacing his roster spot with a mid-major transfer is a downgrade.  jarrod didn't "outgrow" CUSA.  he mite put on a UL uniform, but he's still best suited playing mid-major.

You would think that most in the portal are looking to move "up", either to a higher level mid major, like an A-10 school, or to a major.  Not rocket science, this guy from Murray State to a SEC school, West from MU to an ACC program, etc., etc.!
