  • Northern Iowa got them 71-67

It pretty amazing the basketball program that Northern Iowa has built, huh?  They've made the big dance 7 times since 2004...

  • Even more amazing to get a team like UNC to come to your place to play.

  • CBSsports write-up on the game said Coach Williams of UNC likes to schedule a road game somewhere close to the home of his star senior players, if possible.  Apparently, one of the Tar Heel seniors is from a town about 60 miles away from UNI, so Williams scheduled this game.

Funny thing is the senior got hurt in preseason and is possibly out for the year.  Heels went ahead and played the game.  UNI folks noted the senior before the game, he was there in street clothes with the Heels.  Nice gesture since he had some family there.

I may be wrong, others on here can correct this, but back when Patrick Patterson was at UK, going into his senior season, there was some scuttlebutt that UK and MU were negotiating a possible UK game at the Cam so PP could play here as a CAT, in his hometown.  Don't know if Coach Cal was there at the time, probably was, but the game never materialized.

On another note, UNI is a perennially strong FCS football power, and they obviously have a strong basketball program.  Hope those who say schools like MU can't have good successful programs in both sports will take note.
