According to Jon Rothstein Western Carolina's Justin Gray is finalizing a deal to be the next head coach at Coastal Carolina. With Mike Jones going to ODU the powers that be had better come up with an exit strategy for Dan are risks falling further behind in a conference that's up for grabs with the right hire.

I just checked Wiki and Justin Gray was an assistant at Winthrop from 2019-2021. He has been at WCU for 3 years. First year at WCU 11-21 and 5-13 in the SC finishing in 10th place. Second year 18-16; 10-8 in the conference finishing in 4th place. This year 22-9 and 11-7 and another 4th place finish. He won road games at Notre Dame and MTSU this year.

Nothing against Corny, but I would hire Justin Gray. If CCU can get that type of hire, why not Marshall?

No way Corny or any other assistant on Dans staff should he considered for the HC job after Dan retires. That would be total failure and atrocious hire. Jmo.
I am sure he and the staff are good men. But just not right for this program.

Gray's 3-yr Western HC career improved each year for a average at best, 51-46 record.  so, is the glass half empty or half full?  DD did roughly the same thing and is proven to be an avg coach.  only time will tell on the newbies

There is one difference between Gray and Dan. Gray did beat Notre Dame on road and we all know that Dan has never beaten a big time program from a major conference. ND was not very good this year (12-19) and they also got beat by Citadel.

My bet is Dan believes he can 1. leave when he wants and 2. will choose his successor.  Scary part is he is probably not wrong.  Shame Corny got mixed up in this.  He probably could have been a good coach if he'd learned under a different tree.
