What's the difference?
https://www.fox5atlanta.com/sports/georgia-state-names-former-longtime-uga-assistant-dell-mcgee-as-coach.amp
Both long time RB coaches, both RB coaches for national championship teams. Now, both head coaches in the SunBelt East. Dell is in a large city that is a hub for a major airline and a recruiting hotbed.
It will be interesting to watch Huff's teams go against McGee's.

Hopefully it?s a one year only contest.

Huff may not be the best at coaching, but I will give him credit for working the portal and trying to find better talent. Huff doesn't complain or make excuses about the losing players to the portal and NIL unlike poor ole Dan. At least Huff has a work ethic, unlike Dan.

I think Huff is going to have a monster year this year. All that killed us last couple years was no offense and QB. We got 2 QBs that I like a lot and a much better open it up system. This won't even resemble the last couple years offenses. Go Herd!!!

Only time will tell if McGee is a good hire for GSU, but he was previously a respected high school head coach in GA before moving to the college ranks. A few schools in TX have gone this type of route with coaching hires. I think the biggest advantage to that is in recruiting in a talent rich state like GA.

Do you think McGee will be hired away from GSU after his first season?
IMO, if Huff wins 7 regular season games Marshall will offer him a contract extension. Unless Huff leaves for a coordinator or position coaching job at a P5 school I don't see Huff leaving on his own. He doesn't have the W/L record to be hired away from Marshall for another HC job at the FBS level.
I have the 2024 schedule as:
Stony Brook
at VA Tech
at TOSU
Western Michigan (4-8 last season)
at Ga Southern (6-7 last season)
at JMU
App State
Coastal Carolina
Ga State
ULM (2-10 last season)
at ODU (6-7 last season)
at So Miss (3-9 last season)
5 teams with a losing overall record last season plus FCS Stony Brook. Ga State with a new HC in Huntington, maybe we can pull out a win after the embarrassing loss last season.

If we extend Fluff with 7 wins, that would be a travesty.
There will be no extension, imo. He will win enough to get a job or not be renewed.

only time can tell, but i agree, there may not be time.
again, i'm just glad there is only one year left on the contract. it forces Huff and therefore, MU football to get better or face immediate post season changes.
the question is how will it play out? what are possible outcomes of Huff's future based on the win-loss record and/or other markers?
if we win 5 or less?
if we win 6 to 8?
if we win 9 to 10?
if we win 11 to 12/if we are SBC champs?
-
If Huff wins 8 games or better, including 2 out of 3 on the road versus JMU, VA Tech, and OSU, then yeah, give him a contract extension!

We finished is the cellar of the east year. The cellar.
Year 3 is when a new coach is supposed to have it all together - his roster, his culture, his program. The cellar.
Overall wins are great, but if he doesn?t win 6 conference games, minimum, pack his bags and escort him out of town. Over 3 years he is a .500 conference coach. That sucks.
