The SEC and Sun Belt already had an officiating partnership in place, so it just made dollars and sense for the Sun Belt to save money and utilize the facilities that the SEC already possesses.

Of course, Sun Belt members had to upgrade the technology in their stadiums in order to transmit video-feeds in real time. Benson told ESPN the total cost was under $100,000 and the league picked up the tab.

The result?

Starting with the upcoming 2017 football season, the Sun Belt will have one former referee inside the SEC command center at his own work station monitoring those games.
