  • Pulman Square was a great idea for twenty years ago, say around 1985.

I give Huntington credit for trying but the way they treated ChiChis was awful.
I remember when Huntington was begging ChiChis to come to Huntington.

And now for a super movie theatre that looks deserted or always half empty, ChiChis is gone.
And replaced with nothing shops that seem dull and drab.

Maybe Pulman turns into a mega hit, who knows.

But I just don't see it.
People do not get excited about downtown Huntington. There is nothing there.
    IT'S TAILGATING SEASON!

  • DJ, some things for you to consider.

Several new businesses will be opening in the next couple of months. The HD just finished an article explaining how businesses do not like to open in the dead of winter.

I agree that Huntington needed this 20 years ago, hell Huntington needed this 30 years ago and Huntington has an even greater need for it now! Downtown Huntington needed a spark to help things get rolling and Pullman Square is that Spark.

Would you have liked for the area to remain an empty parking lot with a run down restraunt?

Trust me DJ...what huff just said is a heck of a lot better than what was there.  50 years ago, or 50 years from now.

  • it remains to be seen if this takes off.

Until then, Pulman is a glorified flea market.

  • Pulman is no where near what they said it would be or gonna be.

It is not being recieved as well as they wanted it too.

Hopefully this summer will tell the tale.

Anyways, AmeriHerd, a 7eleven with sno-cones would impress you. :D

Do guys happen to notice that there are already movie theatres in downtown Huntington?
It just seems odd to me to create a super theatre complex. I thought when I first heard this that the current movie theatres would be the theatres in Pulman.
Seriously, the only way Pulman can survive more than 5 years is for an anchor store to move in. Somebody like Wal-Mart, or Sears, or someone big like that, that draws high traffic.

These put together lil stores need a big store to feed off of.

  • DJ, Have you even been to Pullman Square yet? Just being able to open a shopping complex in Downtown Huntington is a victory in itself.

DJ, intially the operators of the downtown threaters agreed to manage  threaters at Pullman Square! But they backed out and decided not to, that was their decision, not the operators of Pullman Square.

Have you ever been to Easton in Columbus? The last time I was there, I didn't notice one major "Anchor" in that particular shopping complex. And that place is awesome and very busy. But you will want to say that is Columbus and this is Huntington there is a big difference, and you are right. But the thing to remember is that the exact same developer that believed that Easton would be a hit, believed that Pullman Square is going to be a hit. That's right DJ, both shopping complexes have the same developers.

Here is a link to some articles on Pullman Square. And umm, DJ there are 2 l's in the name of PuLLman Square.

    http://www.pullman-square.com

Feel free to look around the site, it is actually a very nice site with quite a bit of information about what has happened and about what is to come.

  • Pullman Square will be a tremendous sucess if the University community, and the people of the city put their heart into supporting it.  I hope everyone concerned can see how important, and significant the sucess of Pullman Square is to this community.  Pullman Square needs your support!

  • Pullman Square is actually very nice...I've been there twice!  A very nice addition to downtown Huntington.  Huntington really needed something for a long, long time and hopefully this will be the spark to rejuvinate downtown.  I did read the article in last Sunday's Hearld Dispatch and I'm optimistic about the stores coming and people once again taking interest in the city.  I'm originally from Huntington and I'm proud to be a native.  People need to take pride in the city!

If Huntington and Charleston would think regionally, which they are starting to do, add a regional airport then watch this region really grow!  I used to live outside of Atlanta, GA for 10 years and know the benefits or regionalism.  Everyone commuted to work and thought NOTHING of traveling an hour to a world-class airport in order to get better air service and rates.  I only wish that the mayor of Huntington, Huntington City Council, the Cabell County Planning and Zoning Board, the Cabell County Commissioner and Marshall University had enough foresight to somehow work together and develop a strategic plan for Huntington with Marshall University being the center of it.

To spur new growth in business, give tax incentives especially to hi-tech industries and try to lure them to Kinetic Park with nice access right off of I-64.  Huntington made a mistake years ago by not letting I-64 run through town.  Add a few hotels, motels, restaurants, the regional airport and you've got significant growth!  This might be streching it but if Marshall could someday add a law school, school of engineering, pharmacy school, and a school of veterinary medicine then watch the university and city grow.  Call me a dreamer but that's where great ideas and visions begin.

It will do 10 times better than that if the Trolley Service is enacted.

  • Yes,  I agree on the Trolley,    Huntington needs a Attraction that other cities don't have, and a Trolley System most certainly would be one!!!!

  • I believe a trolley system is a good idea, and would be a great idea on game days so people can park a distance from the stadium, and be picked up by the trolley system and dropped off at the stadium.  It is an excellent idea.

If I remember correctly, TTA was suppose to be running shuttle services every 15 minutes in a giant loop from 3rd ave to 6th street up to 5th ave down 20th street and back down 3rd ave.  Not exactly a trolly but will help bridge the Marshall campus to downtown.
