  • Norman Matoon Thomas
    (November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968)
was a leading American socialist, pacifist,
and six- time presidential candidate for the
    Socialist Party of America.

The Socialist Party candidate for President
of the US, Norman Thomas, said in a
    1944 speech:

The American people will never knowlingly adopt socialism.
But, under the name of "liberlism, "they will adopt every fragment of
the socialist program, until one day American will be a socialist nation,
    without knowing how it happened"

He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presdiential Candidate for the
    Socialist Party.

The democrat party has adopted our platform."

I do think that this quote from 1944 would have to be updated to read " federally elected politicians" in lieu of the democrats.  Not much difference between the 2 parties anymore.  Another poster summed it ups best.  Its authority versus liberty.
“This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead into the future.” —Adolf Hitler, 1935

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

That's how I feel about the so-called 2 party system.  Wasn't impressed with Clinton or Bush Jr...

The economic and social policies of both administrations virtually identical.

Bush spent more. Clinton was reigned in by a Republican Congress. We're still spending billions because of Bush's policies.

What new economic policies were implemented?  One of my main beefs about the Bush administration is that they were devoid of economic vision.  Other than a few tax cuts in the early years, wasn't his economic policy pretty much laid to waste by two wars and a late democratic congress?  I wish we were spending billions because of Bush.  He's gone now and that means it could be fixed.  What I see is 16 going on 20 years of run away spending, with the worst yet to come.
