Another bad decision by the Athletic Department.  It seems like the Athletic Department stumbles over its own feet lately.  Another opportunity to engage the community or at a minimum continue community relationships thrown away.  Sad, not only did that relationship benefit Marshall, but also benefited local children and family charities.

Those guys never kept one penny for themselves. It all went to the children.

Horrible decision by the athletic department.  All this been said, I have no ties to those charities.  Who can't get behind children charities?

I use to fish in a children's charity fishing tournament every Friday night sponsored by the Lions Club to buy eye glasses for needy children. Protect those who can't protect themselves. Worth every entrance fee, expense, and hour of vacation.

Maybe, but the net effect is that which is written.  No more charity and good will and broken ties with potential fans and their families, and a broken promise to continue to help with fundraising. Most of my life I've seen the old guys in their green jackets greeting and helping people at the games.  You're really stretching to defend Marshall on this one, zealot.

Unless I'm overlooking it, where did this come from? Where is the link for some context?

Also, from what I have always understood they have done the job a lot cheaper than security companies told MU they would charge to do the same thing.

. Wow. I was not making a judgment one way or the other. Just stating we don?t know the full story. I like to know things before jumping to conclusions. I know, that?s so zealous for this board that likes to pile on people any chance you get.

I think it?s reasonable to want to know both sides of the story before making a judgement. There?s a lot of group think-mob mentality on this board. Yes, it?s a bad look but we don?t know the story.

  • Have you seen these "Shriners"?  First of all, they didn't have enough to cover every door and entrance.  Secondly, they average about 80 years of age.  Third, the ones near where I had my season tickets wouldn't do anything other than watch the game and, occasionally, tell kids to move away from the railing.  Fourth, some of what you think were "Shriners" were actually Lions Club members with green jackets to supplement the Shriners.

At some point, every school is going to have to hire professional security for their doorways.  Its not perfect, in large part b/c those professionals seem to be 19 year olds, but you can't rely upon a group like the Shriners anymore.  Heck, even the Reds don't have enough old guys with towels to wipe off box seats anymore.

    you are exactly correct here.

every one just wants to pile on and bitch before thinking anything through.  My guess is we are moving more toward the way most schools do it.  Why any one would be upset that our non profit atheltic department, pays the Shriners to stand around and do nothing, so they can donate to other nonprofits out of state?  find something else to complain about.
