  • Our assistants have been reaching out to players in the portal according to social media accounts. Here are some players we have contacted recently:

Tyeree Bryan is a 6'6" forward from Charleston Southern who averaged 10.5 ppg / 5.5 rpg

Tedrick Wilcox from St. Francis is a 6'6" forward who average 11.3 ppg

Enoch Cheeks from Robert Morris averaged 15.4 ppg / 3.5 apg / 4.4 rpg

Briggs McClain is a guard from Hartford that averaged 14.4 ppg.

Just my opinion, but we need some scholarship slots to open up in the worst way.

I have no idea what we actually need, but I will say this, can't we reach out to some higher profile teams to search for players?

I thought Taylor dropped out of college in September of his freshman year and didn't even finish the semester? Don't you have to complete a semester to be a transfer?

Not in sports.  Once you enroll, you have to transfer.  Its just much easier to transfer now.

He was considered a transfer, that is why he had to sit out his first semester at Marshall.

  • We need 2. But it's hard to get them if you aren't willing to open up a spot.

We have one scholarship to give

Better be a baller guard or we are porked

He sat out a year.  He sat out second semester of year he came and fall semester of the year he started playing for us.  Like Elmore

  • We need a true point guard dog gone it. You see how it cost us this year.  We couldn't stop the other teams point guards from dribble driving and we couldn't stop the other teams from shooting the three.  If Danny can't see this then I just throw my arms up in the air.  Our guards could do neither this year.

I'm not a fan of Dan and I think he should have been let go last year and certainly should not have been extended/retained this year.  That said, this is going way too far!  ;-)

  • Just read that in some SBC news, a two-year starter, 6'7" Mekhi Long, is leaving ODU for VA Tech and using his last year of eligibility as a grad transfer at Tech.  Long average around 11 ppg. and nearly 9 rbg for the Monarchs in 22-23.  He led the SBC with 9 double-doubles in League play.

Also, VA Tech is getting Ali Jennings, a big, 6'2" wide receiver at ODU last couple of seasons who will play for the Hokies in 2023.  Jennings had something like 2000 yds. and 14 tds in his 2 years in Norfolk.  Hokies will be at the JOAN this fall.  Hokies also got two other experienced receivers for 2023, one was a leading receiver for MTSU in 2022 and the other is from Norfolk St.

The Portal giveth, and the Portal taketh away!

    Update:
Mason Walters- no mention of MU on his twitter other than Adam Williams follows him
    Enoch Cheeks signed with Dayton
Tyree Bryan posted an image on March 30 with Marshall not found
Tedrick Wilcox- kid wants to go to Providence from what his Twitter looks like. Has some bigger offers, may be a tough pull
Briggs McClain- probably the most realistic. WV native, only one portal offer so far from Manhattan

Sooo, I'd say things arent going too hot in the portal so far. We can talk about $$ not being there but the fact of the matter is many other teams are attacking the portal with limited resources and making it work, example: South Alabama's best players in the Sun Belt Tournament were both D-2 transfers and their big center was a FGCU transfer. It CAN work with limited resources.

Can't afford to have a true PG in college hoops anymore. All 5 guys must be able to score and 4 of them need to be able to handle the ball and shoot the 3.

  • The only thing I will say is this. Most schools that are successful in the portal have both the head coach & his assistants actively involved in the recruitment of portal players. It is hard to compete against schools where the head coach is committed and has the right attitude toward getting portal players. You can't delegate the portal to assistants and tell them "do your best kid". Players that are in the portal are bound to be more impressed if the head coach is actively involved in the process compared to a school where just the assistant coach reaches out.

This is why age is an issue. I know Danny may be doing his best but at 76 you just don't have what a 40 year old has when it comes to energy.

HAHAHAHA.  This should have been posted on the first as it would have been a great April Fools joke!  Regardless of when it was posted it's too political and shouldn't be here.  Granted the first comment likely shouldn't have been done either (and I admit to being guilty about responding) but this is clearly political.  Let's try to keep this much politics off of the board.  We are already divided enough as fans and the way things are going, we don't need to bring the political divides up more also.

  • It is a head scratcher for sure. When Dusty May learned Dannys system, he employees 4 guards from 6'4"-6'0. They all handle penetrate and shoot it. He got a 7' transfer and they are 31-3. He knew what the system needs and got it. I would have thought Danny would have guards all over his roster. But instead a bunch of bigs that can't shoot and half of them set the bench.
I must say it is a head scratcber that he doesn't have more guards to run his system.
