Looks like his first season at Murray, 2019-20, was hampered by injuries. 

If he comes to MU and pans out, guess we could refer to him and Coach D as "Chico and The Man"!   :D

Had five 20+ point games last year... So he has the potential to fill it up. Murray State plays in the very competitive OVC with Eastern Kentucky, Morehead, and Belmont.

maybe a little more mobile on O, maybe a little quicker, driver to and finisher at the rim.  north south attitude.  better vertical.  although i didn't look at his assists numbers or see all that much film; it may just be team concept/level of supporting cast, but seems a little bit more selfish- maybe the style dictated that he was more of a go-to guy like Elmore??  and, yes D is TBD.  seems humble but confident when interviewed

reading some of herdorbust comments is comical. west was 2 time all conference and 2 time all D. led the conference in assists and steals and was the best defensive player on the floor every night and shot %40 from 3, and you say it would be an upgrade. its comical.

Jmo. We all have one. West was not a playmaker and that is what he needed to be at his size. Yes he had some good attributes like defense and shot the ball fairly well outside. But me personally, I don?t care for a 5?8? SG. And he could not run the point and create and finish with penetration. That was a huge disadvantage to our offense. Again, we need better players because this team was stagnant and not growing since Jon and CJ left. Again JMO!!!! But I have at least some hope going forward now.

I think CUSA is a step up but the OVC is a really competitive league, especially at the top. Belmont, Morehead, EKU would have all been tough outs in CUSA this year.

See Chuck Landon's current column on how CUSA basketball stacks up among other mid majors currently.  Chuck then notes how the opposite is true in CUSA football.

Chuck notes that North Texas' first round win over Purdue means CUSA teams have won first round games in the tournament in 5 out of the last 6 seasons (no tourney in 2020)!!  Landon further noted that "Since 1985, only two Group of Five conferences have winning records in the NCAA Tournament.  The American Athletic Conference leads with an 11-8 record (.579), but Conference USA is next at 54-53 (.505).  Meanwhile, the Mid-American Conference is 19-38 (.333), the Mountain West is 22-44 (.333) and the Sun Belt is 16-42 (.276).  Of the 32 conferences in college basketball only eight have winning overall records and Conference USA is one of them." 

Landon then goes on to note that in football all CUSA teams in bowl games were underdogs and that in bowl play they went 0-6!  Zippo, Nil, Nada.  Chuck, not surprisingly, concludes that "Obviously, men's basketball is Conference USA's marquee sport."

Figured Landon's column would elicit a "positive" response from herdorbust as it supports his longstanding opinion about CUSA's two major sports:  basketball and football!!!  :D

This kid will be hard to get.  We are getting in on him late.  UAB has been recruiting him for a longer period of time.  This has been a problem with our recruiting for some time.  We get in on kids after they have been available for a period of time and other schools have already offered.

No, as I am done with him once he left the Herd.  Just saying to dismiss how good he was as shown by ACC schools wanting him and saying we are getting an upgrade goes against logic.

Not comical. True. West was trending down at the end of the year. Taylor was obviously better at the point and we beat UNT with west out.

He can pound sand, i hope he sucks it up in the ACC.

The players you mentioned could play for any team...those were all time greats.  The point is that West was a top level player for the Herd and was good enough to get offers from ACC schools.  An assumption that a player from the OVC will be an upgrade is not a given.  If such player is even close to our all time greats then yes, that would be an upgrade over West.
