Unbelievable. Rumor is he is leaving as a graduate transfer.

Unbelievable. Rumor is he is leaving as a graduate transfer.

Thought it might be for academic reasons.  Thought he was in pre-med and if he has his undergrad degree already then I would figure he was trying to get into a medical school and start his medical studies.  But if he is transferring to continue playing BB, then that tells me he believes he is not that suited to play in DD's system, and is not all that thrilled with it as a player!

Will DD get the same scrutiny as Doc for losing players?

if he has a yr where he only wins 1/4 of his games vs. MAC & CUSA competition, absolutely!

his ill-advised 3's (29%) & soft D (had 1 more block than CJ Burks, who not only doesn't play in the post, but only played 2nd semester) shouldn't be too awful hard to replace.

unlike the rest this one took me by surprise although we do have a few guys in his height and capability ranges.  still, for the umpteenth time, i was hoping for a full(er) bench.  i suppose this means WE could get a late GT!  Best of luck to him.

I wasn't convinced we were good enough at the 5 spot to win CUSA with Thompson. Unless Bennett is eligible or we are getting another late addition (GT?), it looks like we are in a bad spot

Will DD get the same scrutiny as Doc for losing players?

Fair question. Let’s think about that.

How many players has DD lost after graduation? How many has DD lost due to academic problems? How many has DD lost due legal or disciplinary problems? How many has DD lost after they were here just one or two years?

Now. How many players has Doc lost after graduation? How many has Doc lost due to academic problems? How many has Doc lost due legal or disciplinary problems? How many has Doc lost after they were here just one or two years?

There is a considerable difference in losing collegiate players to graduation and prior to graduation. How and why a player leaves a program is very relevant to such a discussion. Were I a Doc apologist I wouldn’t want to make this comparison.

You are kidding aren't you? The 2 programs are so far apart that it's not funny. The football program is a revolving door that reminds me of Herrion when he was the basketball coach. Arrest's, players never even making it to the season, drugs, you name it. The basketball program lost a guy that is a pre med student  that is a great young man. If he wants to do more studying or play somewhere else is a big difference from the circus that has been going on across 20th street.

i can't argue against except that in one you have responsibility for about 100 players and about 15 in the other.

If hes leaving for academics , good for him. If hes leaving for basketball reasons , hes reached his potential , hes not going to get any better . Other than being a body , he wasnt much imo.   He had a couple good games but thats it. Hopefully this means we night have a grad transfer coming or even Iran is eligible. Whatever the reason Thompson left , good luck to him !

Best of luck to Terrence.  I will always remember the look on his face when he made the shot from his waist under the basket last year.

(Come on fellow Herdfans, this is totally different than FB defections)

You mean because the kid actually graduated and didn't get in trouble?

Wonder why we are only hearing about this now?  He's had awhile to decide what he was going to do.  Thompson has put us in a bad spot with this late a decision to GT.  DD is going to have a very hard time finding a suitable replacement this late.

I guess this may mean George wont be a redshirt , if theres not a Grad coming in.

Not trying to negative, but does anyone think Danny might have not renewed his scholarship (cut him). College sports is a tough business.

every possibility has crossed my mind!  not negative...roster drama is getting to be a bit much when all any of us want is to progress

Danny will fill the scholarship with a GT he has been after for some time or a JUCO. This will not affect Darius redshirting.

I hope your correct Herdmeister, but its pretty late in the game to be getting a grad transfer for the upcoming season.

I know for a fact that one they have been on for months is still available

6-6 Phil Bledsoe and 6-9 Jannson Williams need to step up this season.

Phil was an excellent rebounder in HS.

Williams has really stepped up his game since coming on campus. He will be a fine player, for sure. Dani will also be a big help.

If it's the one DD has been after for a long time then all will be more than well.

As much fun as it is to be a guard or scorer in the offense it can't be much fun being the guy(s) responsible for rebounding/defense in the middle.

Justin Johnson is playing football at WKU

Marin Maric went to DePaul

Jack Whitman went to Kansas and left

Depends on your skill set.  A quick rebounding 6-6 to 6-9 type player could thrive in DD's offense simply roaming around close to the basket getting offensive rebounds then put backs for points.  Defense is defense.

I think more likely Danny laid out Thompson's options knowing what was coming down the pipe and let him make his decision from the information.  I'm guessing here but I see it as a mutual parting rather than either party screwing the other.  I think this is a positive thing, because I also don't know if Thompson had the chops to the big guy on the court.

I watch him daily at practice and I agree. He's a great kid, however and intelligent.

If DD can land a good JUCO player that helps us for the next 2 seasons.

It sounds like to me that this could have been an academic decision.  I wish him well.  He is a very nice young man that has a great future ahead of him.

I've heard DD many times at practice say his system is great for the inside guys. They can make a living on pick and rolls when done correctly and when done correctly, it can't be stopped.
