I was curious as to what the official policy was regarding the hiring of head coaches at Marshall University.
Policy makes it clear that the athletic dept is run by the director and that hiring and firing decisions are done by the AD with the advice and approval of the university president. Policy also makes it clear that the BOG must be consulted prior to hiring of head coaches, not just football, but that the hiring decision is ultimately the president of Marshall University. To terminate a head coach is the authority of the director of athletics bu the university president must approve the decision and the university president must inform the BOG of such decision.
The excerpt is from the dept of athletics part of the overall policy.

5.1.1. All Athletic Department personnel, including all coaches, shall report to the director of athletics.
5.1.2. The director of athletics shall hire all Athletic Department personnel and must receive the advice and approval of the president regarding the hiring of head coaches and the advice of the Athletic Committee or its successor committee of the MUBOG.
5.1.3. The director of athletics shall have full authority to terminate the employment of any Athletic Department personnel. However, the approval of the president must be obtained prior to the termination of any head coach. The president will inform the Athletic Committee or its successor committee of the MUBOG in such matters..
