HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Donnie Jones will make his Marshall University head coaching debut as his Thundering Herd men's basketball team opens the 2007-08 season versus Pikeville (Ky.) College on Tuesday at the Cam Henderson Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.Jones, the 27th head coach in Marshall history, will face his alma mater in his first game as a collegiate head coach. The Bears, playing out of the NAIA's Mid-South Conference, moved their record to 2-1 after an 85-64 win over Shawnee State on Friday.Marshall is 73-22 all-time in season-openers and 15-1 in season-openers at the Cam Henderson Center. Over the last 15 seasons, since the 1992-93 campaign, the Herd boasts a record of 148-50 (.747) on its home floor.The Herd returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last season's 13-19 team. Junior guard/forward Markel Humphrey (Atlanta, Ga.) was Marshall's leading scorer (14.0 ppg) and rebounder (6.5 rpg) a season ago and was named to the All-Conference USA Third Team. Humphrey and teammate Mark Dorris (Cincinnati, Ohio) both ended the 2006-07 season with double-digit point games in the last nine outings. Dorris, a senior, averaged 13.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game last season.Forward Jean Francois Bro Grebe (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) begins his senior campaign after starting 26-of-32 games last season, with a team-best 2.0 blocks per game (3rd in C-USA).
