  • Our out of conference record against UPike, Lees-McRae, Radford, Queens & Bluefield was 4 W's & 2 L's.
    Their overall combined records were 102 W's &  85 L's.
    ~
Our out of conference record against Utah St, FIU, KY, MOH, Duquesne, Ohio, Toledo, UNCG & UNCW was 3 W's & 6 L's.
    Their overall combined records were 175 W's & 105 L's.
    ~
    Our conference record was 7 W's & 11 L's.
    Their overall conference records were 119 W's & 115 L's.
    Their overall conference & out of conference records were 214 W's & 208 L's.
    ~
Does NOT appear that the SBC is a good quality conference.
    ~
To the best of my knowledge the above calculations are correct.

  • You might be correct about the quality of the SBC.

But as March 10 rankings Marshall is a not "good quality" team. Here are the rankings. There are 362 teams in DI and two of the ranking services has Marshall in the bottom third of all the teams.

Marshall is one of the reasons for your conclusion of "Does NOT appear that the SBC is a good quality conference."

Yup.  We can only fix us.  If every SBC team fixed themselves we'd be a good conference.

  • We gave Dan D'Antoni a chance of a life time. We gave him the head coaching position when no other school in America would sniff him other than maybe a D2 or NAIA. For 10 years, we paid the man well. He lived his dream and I am glad he did. He is a good man. He truly is. There were periods during his career where he did well at Marshall. I thank him for what he contributed. There are more positives than negatives over his 10 years.

With that said, if he truly loves Marshall as he says he does and he truly appreciates all Marshall did for him, then he needs to retire. The program is clearly on a downward regression. The current roster with one open spot (and he said on his Monday radio show this year that Pruett gets a schollie) is destined for 13th or 14th place in this league next year. Yes he has two frontcourt players, if they return. But in this era, you have to have athletic ballers at the guard positions to win. I am not going on any more.

If he continues to coach here, then we start getting into how his negatives during his tenure here will start to outweigh the positives. At one point, he built up some good stuff with the program. But he has no right to tear down what he built up. I once looked up to the guy. But this season was the last straw. Long conversations are needed. But at the end of the day, Dan has to fess up and say "I have had a good run, but it is time to hang it up". Dan controls this situation.

  • Watching DD burn the program to the ground may be fun for him but as a fan it's not for me.  He needs to retire if he has any semblance of love for the school and the program.

  • Roster construction is just abysmal. Amazing he still has a job. Someone needs to overrule him on handing out these scholarships.

  • So, against a schedule of very average opponents, basically overall .500 teams, Danny's team finished 13-20!!  Imagine if we would have played a schedule full of QUALITY teams!!

D'Antoni Ball! "IT'S FUN, FUN, FUN"!!

  • If you want him to quit without having to fire him the answer is in this thread. You basically take away his autonomy to make decisions. The AD gets to approve all scholarships, including renewals (since scholarships are year by year deals), the AD has sole hiring and firing authority on staff, the AD has sole say over the schedule, etc.

Sure you can keep your job.

  • The AD should become more like a GM. Schedule 5-7 buy games and make roster decisions. Also make Dan show up to alumni functions around the country. Tightening the screws on Dan.

The AD is not going to do that.  That would put the AD himself on the hot seat when DD tanks games/seasons.  That would also give DD another excuse why the program is performing poorly.

If the administration wants DD gone then, the people/person with that decision making authority just needs to do it.  Make a clean break and let the cards fall where they may.  All this make DD work life miserable stuff just makes everyone look worse.

In theory, this would be a good thing. But Dan the excuse maker will just use it to his advantage and his followers will lap up every excuse he makes.
