  • I have read a lot of naysayers concerning the spring game. I think it will be a non-event in the next couple of years. The team we will have in September will likely be little like the team we saw in the spring game. That's true of other schools as well. Recruit 24/7/365 or perish.

  • MU football means so much to me and my family for multiple reasons.  Think about all of the guys that MU meant more than just football to them.  The "75" will always mean a lot to me but I can't see it meaning much to this new group of players.

Very few will be invested in the school and area.  Sad state of affairs and is a lesson about greed and poor leadership.

  • Its a new day men, and not in a good way. I doubt we'll ever come close to seeing teams with the quality we had in the Pruett days, just hard to sustain. And not confident men's b'ball will ever be above "average". Money is killing everything.

I wonder about all these kids chasing the dream and money. When they get in real life and jobs, will the they quit and move on at the first sign of difficulty, or if the boss looks at them wrong?

Agree, very hard for mid level schools to have sustained success. Especially those who want to try and be successful in multiple sports at the D1 level. Your hope is you get a very good team every 3-4 years and that is best case scenario. Schools that aren't funding every sport for division 1 have better chance for sustained success in one sport like basketball. Football to me will be harder to sustain success in than basketball but basketball seems tough enough as it is. I think we all need to have some realistic expectations.

  • it may be somewhat true we're still on an equal playing field with our peers but this is just wild wild west crazy bad.  most G5s will go further downhill in overall quality of product as compared to the top third of CFB.

  • Seems like a big loss to me.  Thought he might have been our best returning defender.  It would seem someone plucked him from us.  Or, was he looking for a pay day.  Will probably never know.  Do hate to see him go.  I think the earlier post was correct, spring games may become a thing of the past with players constantly in the portal.  College football or basketball will never be the same.  Guess time will tell if its better or worse.

  • He was my favorite defensive player. He has the talent and athletic ability to play in the NFL one day. He was raw, but was a natural football player. This one sucks for me personally.

  • That's disappointing.  I hoped he would be able to live up to his potential for us beginning this season.

According to 24/7 we have 22 players that have transferred to Marshall in 2024 and 27 that have transferred out (Dix wasn't listed so we can bump that up to 28).  Of the 17 players that have declared where they are transferring to, 7 are transferring from Marshall to a lower division school, FCS or lower.  Of the 22 players that have transferred to Marshall 21 are transferring from other FBS schools.

  • What worries me about this is that at some point the donors are going to stop contributing.  We have low numbers as it is.

I understand and am nearly identifying with those who are ready to give up. If for my own gains, at some point the point of no possible competitive advantage and diminishing ROI would take over.  It is very much a feeling of throwing money down a drain,

  • All of this NIL/transfer portal BS is why I don't even care anymore. I'll probably go to a game once every few years and that'll be about it. College sports are dead as far as I'm concerned.

  • I love the SBC and as long as we are competitive in conference I will enjoy being a Herd fan.  I believe we likely may not see a ND type game again as the advantage the P4 have is MASSIVE now.

OSU is going to be ranked #1 when we play them.  We will not surprise them.  Let's hope we are on equal footing with our conference mates.
