All schools without FBS football budget needs have an advantage over mid-major basketball teams with football. It's why it's so rare to find schools good at both. Even at the top level you find good basketball or good football schools. Rarely both, anymore. Look at schools like Kansas, UConn, UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Kentucky. They occasionally put together decent football, but are known for basketball. Then some schools have neither. We'd be in that category of schools, whose administration can't get out of their own way.
