Fair points in this blog, only thing I would have included is roster management and having 40% of the scholarship roster being upperclassmen players that was not going to help the team (either because they are not D1 players or they do not fit the system/style of the staff). I mean, our bench was Fricks, Nutter and Crawford....it is reasonable to think that 3 and 5 year players in the program should be seeing some minutes or the staff would have moved them out (like normal D1 programs). Not keep them here for multiple years.

  • When you magically think players are going to improve by NOT playing, then you are living in bizarro world
"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity; they seem more afraid of life than of death"  – James F. Byrnes

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

  • ^I agree 08 .
A heading for one segment of the article :

SHOOTING AND DEFENSE ; TWO AREAS THAT HURT

That heading is about all you need to read ( but he'd already addressed the lack of a real guard ball handler). ???s  It was a complete recipe for failure.

Thanks Luke , you told the truth without calling out individuals.

  • The point was made about near exclusive use of the switching defense not matching the personnel.
Both Nate and OAK are decent rim protectors and Connor, Fricks and Voyles are big enough to allow OAk and Nate to drop after hedging screens.

The roster situation was and probably is a mess; no sense in repetitively hammering that.
But there were more wins available with the players that DD had if he'd been a more flexible (better) coach.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • Appreciate the post. I try to write as objective as possible without letting emotions cloud my judgement. There are huge issues with roster management and personnel. Plan on touching on that in an off season preview article. This article was solely about the play on the court this year.

  • The writer obviously has no clue about college basketball or the responsibilities of a college bb coach.  Herd bb is terrible right now and it starts and ends with DD.

We could have won more games even with this deeply flawed roster

    It's on DD......all of it

    Do it.
We haven't had the proper amount of clear-eyed, evidence-based written opinion since Doug Smock was laid off by HD Media.

Hmmm....did you actually read the article in the blog?

Very diplomatic and used data and field observations.

He gave thoughts on the season and Danny without name calling.

Anyways, Luke, hope you post more on here and enjoyed reading the piece.

Wish we got that from our local papers and reporters.

Easier to just get sounds bite from Danny whining about Andy leaving and the women's game being before the men's as the important issues though with our current media.

  • The article leaves out some key points and in my opinion over states the skill level of Nutter.  The team had massive holes and half the roster was not D1 talent.  We have several wasted scholarships.

We also can have another 20 win season next year with the help of Spears putting together a weak OOC schedule.

  • It would have to be a schedule of nothing beat weak D-2 and NAIA schools. A team led by D'Antoni couldn't compete in a weak D-1 conference. Take this last season as an example.
