  • Seems fair.  I mean we'll only have one representative so we won't be doing as much collectively as the other conferences.  /s

    G5 is undervalued.

The ACC, Big 12, and ND are going to struggle to keep up.  One step closer to the Big 10 and SEC forming mega conferences and either breaking away from the NCAA or forming a different division.  G5 and the P5 leftovers will become the new FCS.  College football will look completely different once the ACCs Grant of Rights expire or sooner depending on the outcome of the ACC vs. FSU lawsuit.  If FSU loses the lawsuit against the ACC college football will change forever once we get close enough to the year 2036 and the buyout becomes manageable.  To big a pay difference between the Big10 and SEC and the other P5 conferences +ND.

  • How is this fair in any way to the G5.  Big 10 gets $336M and all of the G5 conferences combined get a total of $1.8M?

Start a G5 playoff and negotiate their own TV deal.  ESPN is getting the playoff so go to Fox, CBS or Amazon and make a G5 playoff deal.  Guarantee it will be way above all of the G5 splitting a poultry $1.8M.

Correct, but it still stinks to only see a 20% increase compared to everyone else. We just have to hang on for a little while. Once the court rulings are out of the way and everything gets settled we won't be in the same division as them anyway. Just go back to competing against our peers that have equal resources.

  • I don't think every G5 school gets $1.8M.  Only the G5 school that makes the field.  All the others are per team in that conference whether they make it or not.

  • Every G5 gets 1.8M. (Up from 1.5M in last contract)

Indy's get 360k unless they get in as at-large, which gives that team a participation bonus ($6M)
There are no participation bonus for other schools however. Wazzu and Oregon St are considered Indy now and only get this amount.

(Then there's a certain % split for FCS as well.)

They're talking now that they are just going to stay at 12 for a bit and just vote in the revenue model. Then see how it goes.

The big thing was just to make sure the B1G and SEC weren't sharing equally with ACC/B12.

    The other amounts set are:
B1G and SEC  (21M per school)
    ACC (13M per)
    B12 (12M per)
ND (12.5M), eligible for the +6M bonus if they make the CFP in addition to.
    G5 (1.8M per school)
Indy (360k per), eligible for the +6M bonus if they make the CFP in addition to.

(For reference the former P5 split all the money equally and every school used to get $5.5M per)
Note: The SEC, B1G, ACC and B12 also had to give up their Orange, Sugar, and Rose bowl guarantees. So this is why the numbers have increased so drastically. When you look at it this way it makes more sense.

But the gap has widened, between the P2 and M2, and between everyone and the G5.

But if we want the cash, and want the access (which we have guaranteed spot for 8 years now to the playoff), we accept it.

This vote also gave the B1G and SEC sole control over how they want the new format to go, should it expand. They don't need approval from anyone but them. However, even if it expands, there's no additional money paid out by ESPN to the schools.

I hope this happens, the distance between the haves and have nots is becoming insurmountable.  I?d welcome a G5 championship, as well.
