Topic: My son graduates Marshall today!!!!!

Just one proud Dad here!
My son Austin earned his journalism degree and has plans to move to a bigger metro area.

It wasn?t that long ago that I had them at tailgates when they were little boys, and we were passing the football to them.


Anyone else have kids graduating from MU today??

If the area & WV in general is going to thrive, that has to stop.
I do understand, though. We had to leave back in 1983 for me to earn a living.

Congrats to your son. Does he have an area he is concentrating in? If he has no job possibilities, feel free to have him reach out if he likes. I have spent more than three decades in an adjacent field and would be happy to give him advice or point him in directions that I think may be helpful. At worst, I can give him some encouragement. The job hunt stinks and it can be particularly hard for this generation because they are not used to dealing with rejection and it is so easy to just get ghosted by sending resumes into what seems to be a giant gaping hole where emails go to die.

There are a lot of bigger metro areas really close to Hton and the tri-state, and they have jobs.....................

Sadly elginherd, recent Census info indicated that Huntington/Cabell County lost 3,000 or so people since the 2020 Census, so the out migration continues.  Same for other counties in Southern and SW WV, which doesn't bode well for that area of WV and MU when it comes to enrollment, fan support, etc., etc.

IF there was a severe out-migration from the area, there would not be the HUGE housing shortage there is. Many folks are moving our further and further, but not away. Huntington has over 20,000 people committing into the area for work every day; that comes from a study published on housing LAST WEEK.  People see what they want to see about Huntington, it isn't for everyone. But is is on fire for those who love it and are committed to its growth.

One of my granddaughters attended her sister's graduation from Marshall Saturday afternoon with the rest of us(familY), she goes to SEMO.  Here comments about Huntington were "So this is what a college town is supposed to be like.  Marshall is everywhere I turn, its amazing. You don't see SEMO on anything in the Cape (Cape Girardeau).  Just saying we see what we want to see.

Housing shortage??  If so, because NO new housing of ANY significance being BUILT in the City or immediate area.  Existing housing dilapidated, falling in, etc., to the extent Mayor can[t tear them down fast enough, when he's not handing out gobs of "free" needles.  People moving out "further and further"??  Where?  Not in the Counties in and around Huntington according to the STATS!! Counties all losing population, even Putnam's population has stagnated significantly.  So where have they moved?  To Parkersburg?  Portsmouth?  Other side of Charleston?  Don't know about Cape Girardeau in Mizzou, but you need to face REALITY when it comes to Huntington?  Or just feel fine with your Head firmly buried in the ground!  Like Kevin Bacon's ROTC dude proclaimed in "Animal House", "All is well!!".
