It is impossible to build a consistently good team at the G5 level now. Your only chance to be good for a few years in a row is if you just get a stud QB who doesn?t need money, doesn?t want to play in the P5, and loves Marshall.  That?s it.

You have a chance for a good team occasionally if the stars align, but the days of being consistently good are over even if you spend more NIL than ever other G5. No continuity = scattered results.

Football is going to be tough trying to replace so many every year. Basketball with a great recruiter and some decent NIL money will be much easier to have good teams. 7-8 players and you are set.

8-2 was the final.  Bub Feringa had a tough start.  She faced four batters and did not record an out, although the first batter hit a routine ball to SS that was thrown away.  Marshall could not recover.

8-2 the final. Herd giving up a lot of unearned runs.

After 3
Marshall 0
Texas St.4

Top of the 4th
6-0 Texas State after 4.  MU has one hit and two errors. Not a bad season considering what was lost from roster, the challenging schedule, and pitching issues. I expect with next year's class we will be back in top four.

Marshall will be his 4th school, he had prior stops at Minnesota, ODU, and Colorado.  Looking at his prior seasons stats, I doubt Coach Prime is wringing his hands over this transfer.  He was not on the first team at Colorado.

Last night's game rained out. Taking on TX ST at 2 PM ET (ESPN+). Should we somehow prevail we would have to play to play at 7 PM due to the compressed schedule. The good part is that Rice got a few more hours of arm rest.

I think some kids just like being recruited more than they like playing.

Here's a thought...

Amid portal era, Calipari hints at limiting Ark. roster to '8 or 9 guys'
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40115234/amid-portal-era-calipari-hints-limiting-arkansas-roster-8-9-guys

We certainly could've got by doing this last season!  Woulda saved the BG a lotta wasted scholarship $!

just when i think i've heard it all.   lets say there's a rash of two or three players getting seriously injured.  i don't think any coach in their right mind is going to self-limit their roster, especially programs with enough financial and NIL support.
i'll go as far as asking- why wouldn't they go in the opposite direction and force the weak ncaa to increase scholarships from 13 to whatever?  why couldn't you win (in men's programs) with wholesale substitutions like Caldwell did with the women's program?  can you imagine having 12 elite players and 8 really good players to work with?

closer to reality though, i really like this down-to-earth take on the subject-

If the big schools start using fewer of their scholarships, that would mean four or five fewer scholarships available per school and that would have a trickle down effect for a school like Marshall to get better players.
