This an award named after Jerry West.  No one should be voted over Jerry West and that is why the award is named after him.  He was the best.
He isn't in the running.

Give Kinsey the rest of his career to build whatever he is going to build and then compare.  Looking at Jerry West after his whole career and comparing that to a 23 year old kid who may or may not go on to do great things isn't really fair, either.  Also, after watching that Lakers series on HBO, Jerry was kind of a d!ck.

I am old enough to remember Jerry West leading wvu to the national championship game in the NCAA National Tournament. I watched the game on TV, WCHS. They lost to Cal 71-70 in the Big Dance  March 21, 1959 and West was voted Most Valuable Player in that year's final four. He was a consensus All-American. Even in the Huntington area he was liked and respected, especially after upsetting UK on their home floor. wvu was a national power during his playing days and West was one of the best college players to ever play the game.

There was a summer league at the old Olympic Pool the year after he played at wvu and he played in a game. I got his autograph.
