  • Remember this is a bunch of freshman and sophomores going against a seasoned BIG 10 team. I hate losing and know we made stupid mistakes and could win but I'm good with the effort. Not happy with the defensive coaching though.

  • I'm really starting to think it is less about the coaching and more about having no horses on defense. I mean, every defensive player that transferred here got a starting spot. None of the are top-tier players. That says something...

  • Purdue laid down in the second half.. Our kids didn't quit and we made some adjustments. Pick 6's really hurt us

  • I think we threw alot of kids into the fire way too early. We may have to suck it in and grab some JUCO's to plug the leak until we can build the youngin's up.

  • Welp, like I said earlier, not the result I wanted, but it's nice to have an offense that can score on anyone.

  • We just need to get this one over with and get home. There is no column for "show well". It was over after the two pick-sixes.

Maybe true; but if you are Coach Holliday you are teaching an attitude that you compete each and every play so he & his staff are not just coaching to win THIS game, they are coaching to win games in the future.

  • When you have a defense as terribad as this one, you cannot, under any circumstances, turn the ball over multiple times.

Agreed about the lack of talent. The way that this team has tackled for most of 2.5 seasons says something more, however.

Agreed. He showed great hands and should be seeing more time in the future.

No argument there; or with the prev. reply. Good points.

If they have not been doing this already, do you think there might be a problem. If they are doing this already, do you think there might be a different problem.

I was replying to ought-3's comment about packing it up after the 2 pick-6's. I was making the point that, to my eyes anyway, for the last season & this current season the Herd is competing almost every play whether the game is still winnable or not.

For this season, there is a different problem: the defense has obvious talent deficits, individually don't play with their feet under their bodies, don't wrap up, and are frequently out of position. One of the 3rd converts was a screen to the Herd's left side. 3 defenders badly over pursued the play to the outside & their RB ends up with a long TD where a Herd defender doesn't come within ten yards. Oh, and I forgot about blown coverages, plays where receivers are obviously left uncovered before the snap, etc. I don't think effort is the problem; I think that IQ is a huge problem.
