As bad as Jirsa was, I think he defeated WVU twice.

He could coach, he just couldn't get anyone worth coaching.

The one other rumor about Mike D'Antoni' was that he might have been able to bring Kobe Bryant to Marshall. Bryant lived in Italy for 7 years while his Dad played professionally there and D'Antoni was a basketball legend in Italy.

The meeting between the BG Pres, Mike and DShoe was in 2009.  Mike spoke at that spring's BG Dinner.  The rest, as you know by now, took place in 2003.

If I am reading the series correctly, Coach Z; Huck; Freeman; Donovan; White; Jirsa and Herrion won games against wvu. Dan and Donnie never won a game against them. Altman also never beat them, but he was at MU for only one season.

Both Donnie and Dan played them three times. Dan did everything in his power to stop the series with wvu. We all know Dan didn't like playing "power"  programs he was like 0-15 against them. Dan would rather play a Bluefield than a wvu even on a neutral court. Too bad Dan didn't have the philosophy of another Marshall coach who use to say "get a dog if you are scared".

I know you seem to loath DD and I'm glad he's gone, but I'd put the wvu cancellation on Huggins.

I was just pointing out and adding the perspective that despite DDs long tenure he didn't play them often.

By comparison, JMU gave their new HC 6 hundred grand as the basic salary PLUS an incentive package. Found it interesting that among the incentives were a list of them specifically set by the school?s President which included wins over Major foes, over other D-1 schools set by the President, probably specific D1 schools elsewhere in VA and in the mid-Atlantic region.  This seems to tell me that their Pres. has some input on scheduling.  Just hope that Danny D. has NO input on future HERD schedules! ZERO! ZIP! NADA!
