  • Good hire. Corny needed to bring in a recruiter for his staff.

Jason Slay is what I heard a few weeks ago. That still on?

Also heard Cline was being moved to admin role but he's staying now?

  • I think Illinois State gave Slay an associate tag, and upped his money.    Much better league than the Sun Belt.

  • Rob Fulford recruited State Player of the Year Sharron Young to Akron. Young is the best PG in the state.

  • Someone on here had mentioned a while back that Ryan Taylor was taking one of the open positions on the staff.  Is that no longer happening?

  • Fulford worked for Jim Groce at Akron who is a good college college coach. Groce took Ohio U to the Sweet Sixteen and then left of Illinois before ending up at Akron. He has coached teams to the Big Dance 5 times. Ford was the associate head coach at UA and Fulford was an assistant at UA.

I like that Fulford has worked with a successful coach. He should be prepared to be a good assistant and not have to in a "job training" mode.

Maybe that is why our recruiting has been slow. We now have proven recruiter on board.

  • I have heard that Ryan Taylor is keeping his position as Assistant Director of Operations, not moving to Assistant Coach.    Don't have all the details on that.

  • Hope he can recruit. I would assume he is good at it based on what he did at Huntington. Appears he's been a winner and seems like a great hire on paper.

    That's my understanding as well

Perhaps Jon Elmore back in play?

  • Good about Rob!  He is well-connected nationally and was certainly in on some high-level recruiting.  I think Slay was named Illinois State coach-in-waiting and was given a substantial increase in salary.  I talked to Corny about Jon and he said he had talked to him; hopefully he can come on board sometime down the road -- getting too old to make it in the NBA.  That would make a good staff.  All of the administrative people have  always said they respected Corny's recruiting judgement more than anyone else; he's the one who got Kinsey.

  • Ben Howlett should?ve been named head coach and Fulford as associate head coach.  Corny could still cheer the team on to appease the DD crowd.  Instead we always have our thumbs in our rear when choosing coaches.  I guess go herd 1 or 2 times

Ben should absolutely be on the short list if Corny doesn't pan out. Assuming someone else hasn't taken him.
