As the Marshall quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Tony Petersen readies the offense to take on the Western Carolina Catamounts this week, he might be tempted to break out a 25-year-old film as motivation.

It was a Nov. 14, 1987, Marshall contest against Western Carolina in which Petersen broke the NCAA record for pass attempts without an interception in a regular-season game with 68.

Petersen finished 34 of 68 for 481 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Herd's 47-16 win.

"We were going out and hitting on all cylinders on offense -- throwing, running, people were breaking records," Petersen said. "It was exciting. We were beating them pretty well and having fun doing it. It was just enjoyable to put up those numbers."
